Wow…some interesting points BBD.i think if you look at the Watkins transformation centre to second row, Shorrocks hooker could happen. I think you’re right in that Shorrocks versatility is his downfall…if he were given a fixed position, say as hooker, he might blossom. I think the issue with both Partington and Shorrocks at Wigan is that they weren’t big enough for them; but we have to play a different style. I think also because we now have an even smaller squad and I understand no money, lots of players will play lots of different positions…looking forward to Atkin at prop😉 I wouldn't bet against Atkin at prop 😂😂 He'd definitely make a fist of it. I think we looked good towards he back end of the year experimenting with more mobility. Partington played at prop. Hellewell also played there and yes never let us down and runs some grey lines. Wright was out player of the year before his injury, playing at prop. I think the advantage of these three guys is that the know how to run a wider variety of lines having come from he back row. They also have high engines and get through a solid workload. Also, wouldn't bet against Shorrocks in any position Rowley chooses for him. I think he'd be best at LF but I would just like to seem him play one position as he could be a real find.

I wonder how the IMG gradings are impacting on building up for next season.
Correct me if I am wrong, but its a reset from the end of the 2024 season and 12 clubs will be given a "Licence" in effect, for three years based upon the IMG grading.
A graders will escape relegation, whilst B graders (in the SL) will remain at risk of demotion if they come bottom and the winners of the Championship have a higher IMG grading.
Thus from my point of view, is it the case SRD and other clubs are prioritizing what gains IMG points (profitability, ground rights, et) than team affairs. Especially if Cas and London are already doomed.
Thoughts?

However, the rate squad members seem to be exiting I'd say, when no one's left to play, one of us from Devil Talk may have to go and turn out the lights!

I have had to have a bit of time away from this site and Salford related media, the negative press and SARL and Leeds Live obsession with Salford has become tedious.
Anyhow I got the Season tickets today and saw a first team training match which was a welcome experience. I have to say that on first look Brierley, Cust and Syned will be a great 1,6,7 - Cust well impressed. In addition Mellor at 9 adds something different with his excellent distribution. The resident Rowley fan club (JJR, Russ, Dixon 13, etc) will be in for a treat next season, we have 3-4 viable options at hooker, judging by todays combinations I expect our coach will mix it up lots. Ryan/Cross did not play in the training match as they had knocks and McDonald is not in the UK yet. Burgess was missing, tells me he is gone, still no club statement however I'd bet he's played his last game for us.
So to next years 1-17 based on what we have today.
Brierley Cross MacDonald Lafai Ryan Cust Syned Singleton Mellor King V Watkins Wright Shorrocks
Partington / Ormondroyd / Stone / Atkin
Our forwards this year are arguably stronger moving into 2024, still think we need a big Prop, we do however need to sign cover across the backline, this has to be a priority. We also have a quota spot left too. Some of the Directors were there and seemed in good spirits.

I get what you’re saying but I’m not a fan of playing small props and we only have 4 out and out props now that would be ok but there’s some very injury prone players there. I can agree with you on the backs with Joe and Ken gone leaves very little depth. I just think if we use a quota spot it has to be on a starting player

I had to laugh at how often Sneyd comes out as syned and until I checked the spelling I thought we had the welsh parliament playing at number 7.

For me Kershaw is not a good enough replacement. I do not want us to sign Big Ben from Leigh either as that is the easy answer. Use the quota spot on a overseas prop or winger, our forwards were poor last year, our 1-5 very strong. We have lost two of the best wingers in SL, replacing them is not easy but we have options with Ryan/Nene/Cross/ being able to cover Wing.

Just a quick note, Sidlow's not small, at least I don't think so!

The answer to the above question is that there is a Rowley fan club on here hence me playing to the crowd. I am happy with Rowley, he has given us one excellent season and then an average one not helped by last years signings. My frustration last season was trying to play Rowleyball when we did not even do the basics right. I do like structure and believe you have to earn the right to play, we play dumb sometimes. However from my perspective Rowley has a clean slate this year, he has had his team ripped to bits, we cannot judge the class of 2024 until at least April/May. From what I saw today I think Rowleys love of being creative will be seen in the way our 9's play this year. I feel positive that our forwards will be better this year.

It is interesting that I see SRD as having played that "earn the right" rugby for coach after coach, year after year, and for the first time in quite asome time, under his style we have been totally enjoyable to watch.
I don't share your assessment of last year either.
I've never been frustrated with Rowleyball which I cannot say about any previous coach and even under the most successful of those I was bored rigid far too many times. So much so I lost count.
All coaches should start with a clean slate and I agree the forwards do look better this year.

Well the Saints friendly has been announced, I'd assume we'd play another game pre season against lower league opposition to give the lads a run out. I know we have had a bloody awful Pre Season headline wise (Leeds Live and SARL) but our team 1-17 is not as bad as the UK media are suggesting. No idea who Rowley will set us up by I'd pay good money to watch this 1-17:
Brierley Ryan Cross Lafai MacDonald Cust Sneyd Singleton Mellor King V Watkins Wright Shorrocks
Partington / Ormondroyd / Stone / Atkin
We add another few players to this squad and we have a decent bunch of players, our forwards are certainly better this year.

Decent 17 but I can’t agree the pack is stronger? We’ve only brought shorrocks in and while I think he’s going to be good he’s not a dominant forward we badly need. I see this pack getting dominated again this year unless we bring someone in to help out
