Do think King V should up his game. Mistake riddled currently. Is Gerrard near?

Agreed, he was excellent against Hudds and after, but yesterday went back to giving away penalties. Here's the average gain of our proprs this year - I've included Wright as he played there before his injury. Gerrard - 8.4m (skewed as he's only had 15 carries) Sidlow - 7.81m King - 7.2m Wright - 7.04m Ormondroyd - 6.93m Dupree - 6.7m Excluding Gerrard who hadn't carried the ball much, Sidlow makes the most per carry, but a lot of those carries can be quite slow. He pushes forward after contact as he's a big man to bring down. He doesn't explode into the line and get a quick ptb like Walmsley does. King, generally creates the best ruck speed and runs good lines, but he really needs to cut out the penalties. We miss Wright because, though he isn't a big guy, he runs great lines and fights to ptb. Ormonrdroyd has disappointed me this year, he's not been bad, he just hasn't built in what was a fantastic season last year. Maybe it's due to a niggling injury as he seems to be playing fewer minutes than last year and isn't starting anymore. Tyler, imo, needs more urgency in his play - with ball in hand, his urgency in defence is second to none. He doesn't fight to get to his feet an ptb or run aggressively enough for someone with his upper body strength. Maybe he's burning up too much energy defending? Maybe he's better from the bench?

We shouldn't change our style but you need to be able to adapt to game situations. We knocked on 4 times in 12 minutes, completed one set that ended in a terrible kick, and gave away two penalties. If I were the captain, I'd have told the lads, the next three sets, we run hard, kick deep, chase well, and defend. Win territory, settle down, and then open up again. You have to earn the right to play and keep the opponent's defence honest. Today, Hull KR had our number easily in defence. RL is all about territory, make your opponents go 90m every set and you won't concede many... keep dropping the ball in your own half and you'll burn up your energy defending and give away points. Now your assessment of how RL is played generally is correct that would appear to change SRD's style. When you consider it's a weakness at the ruck that causes most of the problems, along with errors of course. Earning the right is straight from the Manly playbook. I think the style we play is great. We make good yardage from half breaks on the edges by shifting the ball quickly using cut-out passes to expose compressed defences, which can also create space in the middle. But, there are times that periods of the game need to be managed and settled down to alter the momentum of the game. Yesterday, after four knock-ons, two penalties, and only one completed set that ended in a poor kick, we clearly needed to settle down for a few sets. They had the momentum and we needed to work out way back into the game and quieten the crowd. Also, our Plan A hasn't been executed very well this season (excluding Hull FC away and the first half against Warrington). We're not as crisp in our movement and passing. Our timing seems off and on the shift the players our back look too deep when receiving the ball, which allows the defence more time to adjust - the only difference this year is we don't have Danny Orr, maybe he made a difference with thise plays? It's been a cut off all year, though it could be that we expect too much after last season where everything seemed to stick. I don't want us to change how we play. I love to see us expose a weak defensive line from deep in our own half but I do want us to be smarter when momentum is against us because no matter how good a team is, if you are wasting too much energy defending you'll lose. If your opponents consistently have better field position you're also likely to lose.

I spoke to Dupree after the game and asked for a picture of him outside the ground he’ll be playing at next season (in a jokey way). He said ‘not happening mate. Salford had a bit about them and that’s that!’ Fair play!!

I’m still undecided whether we should keep king or not? Not sure if I’d let him go and bring in 2 NRL props next year along with singleton. We are 2/3 good props away from being a consistent top4 side

Gutted not to get through to be honest but could be a blessing in disguise. If I've read the fixtures correctly we play Leigh the week before their semi final against St Helens, so they'll have an eye on that for sure. We play St Helens the week before the final so hoping for a Saint win in the semi. Plus factor in two weekends where we now get the week off which will surely do us no harm at all.

Plus more difficult for saints v hudds to rearrange. I would still have preferred a win though.

Alway a bit of a mixture of Quincy and Marple right after a loss and generally our reasoning is nearly as fictional as those two.
Watching the other matches on the Beeb that six again plus penalty does seem a one way street on the whole.
Warriors lucky, Wolves unlucky though it's hard to favour or like either of them.
There was a moment in one of the recent games where I'm certain Welsby tackeld someone and then pushed over the sideline with a second attempt.
And the video ref is nearly as boring as it is silly. "Can I see the view from three streets away now, please?"

Never understand why the video ref doesn’t point out obvious errors made by the ref during the game…they see it we see, surely the aim is to get it right…look at the televised RU matches it works

…look at the televised RU matches it works And then count all the times you asked "When does the rugby start?" and all the hours you'll never get back!

🤣🤣 But they do ref to a far higher level and I wonder why we don’t catch on It struck me that no Leaguie has ever stayed tuned in and awake long enough to learn the lesson.
Hope this helps!
