Reflections now that we’re 10 games in…
- defence has been much improved this year. It’s probably been our best aspect - attack not hit its straps yet - home form getting better but still feels like we play better away - winning close games that it feels like we would have lost - significantly better than this time last year: - 2022 P10 W3 Points For/Against: 166/266 - 2023 P10 W6 Points For/Against: 208/183 - so scoring 4 points more per game and conceding 8 points fewer - worst performances Hull KR (H) Huddersfield (H) - best performances Hull (A) Catalans (H) - (ifs/buts/maybes) if we’d hung onto our leads at Warrington and Wigan we would now be top of the table as the only club with 8 wins!! Obviously could say that with every game but they’re the two it felt like we had winning positions that we lost - overall far more positives than negatives and that last statement shows how close we are

Great summary, I agree the defence and resilience to want to win is the most important factor this year, an uplift in attack will come.

Excellent summary RUTB. I hadn't looked at the stats compared to last year but the improvement is obvious and as you say our defence has been, for the most part, excellent. We still have an issue with defending a play that isn't there... like Catalan's try from the scrum the other day, but on a whole, the effort in the second-half epitomised this year's squad. If we can fund more rhythm with ball in hand we'll be very difficult to beat - as you mention, those games against Wigan and Wire were winnable. Very positive overall.

Yes Rowley absolutely amazing with no money; him and Blease somehow manage to find the great pieces for the jigsaw at bargain prices…imagine what it would be like if they had funds

Great summary.
I think we're one or two players away from taking the team to the next level. I always worry that we lack the depth of the 'bigger' clubs if one of our key players has a long-term injury but that's not something we can readily change.
The non-playing staff also deserve a lot of credit for getting us in to this position on a shoestring budget.
