Interesting read especially about Warrington taking 6 lads from the Roosters.

I don't think you can draw lines and say players from 'x' club must go to the academy of 'x' team. You can't take away the choice of a kid/parents regarding who they sign for. Also, the academy in their area may not think they are good whereas another academy would give them a shot. I do think we would benefit as a game from regional academies. Have all clubs chip in a min % of turnover and add some central funding. Employ coaches centrally where we can standardised and improve their training and development too. Have coaches from SL clubs interact from time to time too.

I know that some of not all of the Roosters would have preferred to join salfords academy if they could have offered a wage and the other wrap arounds you get at Warrington.
Sone roosters in the current salford 16s and 18s and some salford lads who play from non-salford teams. Plus some from other salford community clubs. One rooster recently signed for Cas academy I believe.
Can’t insist on them joining their nearest academy, all kinds of things to take into account. Just like some will play amateur for nearest team and others will travel at all age groups. But salford will continue to lose out on players til they can match the offers of other clubs academies

Think the biggest issue is that Koukash closed our Elite academy set up. When we recently applied for it again we were denied it by the RFL. I imagine this is one of the reasons IMG couldn't put Elite Academies in their criteria.
So players will likely still go to Warrington and Wigan etc until this is addressed.

The reality is we can’t afford to run an Elite Academy. It all comes down to money

The academy was run poorly in Koukash’s time so it failed the assessment and funding was withdrawn and he refused to cover it. Just like he refused to spend money on pretty much anything that wasn’t 1st team players (stadium primacy, off field activity, community club engagement, changing the logo on the stadium). We now have a really good set up with the elite academy with some great coaches involved but still no money to fund it properly. But it’s better than it has been, probably since the later 90s / early 2000s in terms of personnel, structure and scouting

Yep just threw £5m down the drain then when we struggled bought Jackson Hastings…what a waste But also turned off the potential pathway that we could have been bearing fruit from today! Also had us face various legal cases and got us various points deductions! Fired pretty much all the back trim staff!

And without him (and John Wilky, who some still berate) we wouldn’t even be discussing this

And without him (and John Wilky, who some still berate) we wouldn’t even be discussing this No one has ever said otherwise but he was not the messiah and caused us a hell of a lot of long term problems. You don’t seem to take any cognisance of that and just see him as some kind of god

A god, what planet are you on. I just recognise that he spent a lot of time and energy saving the Club, even after he left; he also appointed Watson and Blease then Watson appointed Rowley…I think the word you’re looking for is balance.

Maybe you should heed your own advice and use balance when discussing the current board, after all it was that hoard who secured Croft, brought Rowley back in and has facilitated the current squad and arguably the best sponsorship deals we have ever had for. Number of years.

Is that the end of the quiz…if so goodnight, sleep well The problem with a balanced view now a days, is that it seems to go from being one far right view can be balanced by one far left view. Where as what we should be aiming for is a level ( headed) view closer to the middle. JW,MK, and PK have all done good jobs ( some more to extremes than others), and although obviously people think they can do a better job, and have the right to criticise. I would say until you are in their position and know all they know ( I am sure we don't know everything) it is better for the club if we all show support for the club ( if not the man) and not dissent.
