He has been the Ref twice this year, Leigh away and Wire away. In two games he has awarded two penalty tries against Salford and Sin Binned two players. Not to mention a lack of penalties or 6 again which Rowley cited after last nights match. Hope he does not get any further Salford matches in the near future - The sin bin and penalty try stats are unreal, we'd normally see less than ten in a season (Penalty tries).

Agree he has been poor more so last night than v Leigh. The two 8 point tries were a shambles makes the game a laughing stock 'its going soft'. Smith reacted to Thewliss, Duffty and Williams moaning. Wire play Wigan / Saints / Leeds / Hull Smith does not make those calls.

I didn't have a problem with the penalty try or sinbin against Leigh but we had an awful lot of penalties against us against them, especially in the second half, and while they may be justified I don't think he applied the same standards to Leigh.
Last night, the two 8 point tries were soft. Strictly, yes they are, but you never see them given for such small things. Watkins can't do anything about Dufty diving down to score, his head is low. If I were Salford I'd look at every try scored this year, identify ones that should be 8 pointers by the standards set last night and query it with the league and refs. The sinbin also seemed soft. I assumed it was a build up of fouls but he hadn't put us on a team warning. As with Leigh though, he hammered us in penalties, especially ruck interference, and those standards didn't seem to be evenly applied.
Again, if I were Salford, I'd want to push the issue, I'd have somebody go though the video footage of both games and take a cut of all the penalties against us. Go through Leigh and Warrington tackles that appearmto be penalties by the same standard and ask for clarification on the differences.
Something does need to be done about the standards of reffing in the game and that starts by forcing the people in charge to explain and take accountability.
I don't want to simply blame the ref though. It wasn't a good display and the sinbin was ultimately the straw that broke our back. The team also need to take some responsibility for penalities because we've conceded a lot over three games. We are also 100% responsible for not taking care of the ball. Yes, plays what's in front of you and throw the ball about, it's who we are. But there are times you need to take a bit of a breather and settle the game. Burgess passing to Wright early in a set and near our own line. Brierley throwing the ball in-touch.on the first tackle from a scrum. There have been lots of these issues over the three weeks, where we just haven't been smart in possession.
=== POSITIVES === Performance from 10-40 mins. Defence in the first 10 mins of the second half. Willingness to dig deep. Attitude. Burgess was good. Lafai was his usual self. Dupree ran well. Longstaff had a great debut. He made some really good tackles one-on-one. Partington has been a quality signing - our 13,.with him over Taylor, is stronger than last season. Ackers continues to look really sharp out of acting half. We moved the ball on the edge far better than we have in weeks 1 and 2 - the timing of passes and runs were much improvedi thought Sidlow looked good for a first game back. I think the manner of the lost will steel and galvanise the players rather than get them down.

Some fair points BDB. I have just watched Rowleys post match interview - he was fuming his point we make 7-8 breaks first half and get no set restarts yet Wire do 2nd half plus everything else. Watch Thewliss and Duffty bitch after they score trying to get our players carded, the Wire players are a disgrace. I hope Ref Karma bites them at some point, then we will see moaning bastard Powells true colours.

I really dislike the bitching coming in to RL in this country. Let's not become football or soft.
I hope Warrington get a good spanking soon - I'd love nothing more than to see them get a hammering and capitulate like last season. Honestly, I don't fear them after last night, we held up well, and I feel far better than after the Hull KR game. I really think we'll come good. A little more composure with the ball. The same attitude we had last night.and tidy up the mistakes we are making.
I would seriously out together video montages and challenge the league and refs though. Spemthig needs to be done. I'm tempted to do it myself but I don't have the full games.

Fair play to the fan for admitting that. It's not often you get the opposition fans agreeing to such an extent. He's right though. We exposed them after good victories against Leeds and Huddersfield. We shut down their Plan A and they didn't have an obvious Plan B.

Thought he made some wrong calls last night. But he was fine in the Leigh game. The sin bin call against Leigh was spot on. Last night shouldn’t even have been a penalty
But if we had defended that set better and not allowed the very soft break the. It wouldn’t have happened. Too easy to blame the referee. Salford need to concentrate on the things they can control

Worth listening to Rowleys interview…not single instances but an accumulation

I see Hull KR had some of the same issues with Jack Smith as we did... and against Warrington again, no less. Lots of six agains for Warrington and not for Hull KR. Inconsistent. Peters saying he wants clarification and answers. I also read a comment from a Hull FC fan who went to the game and obviously wanted KR to get smashed and they said that the first half was the worst ref performance they've see in a while... mustn't have watched utbgane last week 😂
