Yes around 1960,it was the norm to play on Christmas Day.My dad took me to watch us play Wigan. We stood in the corner by Weaste Lane at the cricket club end. I have a lasting memory of Billy Boston scoring 4 tries, one of which he seemed to have 4 defenders on his back, when he went in. Salford always seemed to lose in those days!!!

Never on a Christmas day but the thing I miss more than anything from the good olde days is the Boxing Day fixture, watch England invariably get tonked at Cricket from some exotic place in the morning and then Salford later on.

Yes Wigan was the regular Christmas fixture. IIRC it was Christmas day with the return fixture Boxing Day. How times change.

We certainly did play Swinton on New Years Day,it usually rained and we usually lost. We were on BBC TV with Eddie Waring on at least one occasion, and in those days there were no videos or DVDs or catch up. I remember one draw if my memory is correct.

Maybe Christmas Day fixtures should come back. I'd rather be at the rugby than watching the family fall asleep in front of the telly one by one. Saying that I suppose to have a competitive game on crimbo day, we'd have to go back to winter rugby with it's heavy pitches and slow pace(relatively speaking)

I remember playing Leigh on boxing day when they opened up their stadium. Think it was 2008 or 9. It was the year we signed super Jeremy Smith.
