Finally got around to watching his interview on Salford TV with regards to him being picked for club captain.
I have to say, what a great choice. Listening to other player interviews they always mention Watkins stature in the game and the respect that he's earned over his career and how he stands-out as a leader to those players. Not only is this obvious when you hear him interviewed it's also obvious why he has been chosen. Articulate, thoughtful, respected. He has that air about him in the same way that Sinfield did at Leeds. Perhaps it's not a coincidence that he was part of that defining Leeds team alongside him. A local lad, Salford ballboy and supporter, his focus and drive are still all there to see. He is exactly what this team needs as a player that demands the effort and best out of his colleagues, but can produce it himself.
I feel a lot more at ease this preseason after listening to him and I really think that a trophy isn't beyond us with the mentality that is growing at our club.
