Total RL has looked at the number of home grown players in the top 17 pf each club
Saints have 9, Catalan 8, Wigan and Leeds not far behind but the rest low
So as Rowley is trying to do, is get a structure sorted to develop the talent pool. It’s seems to be getting there but as Rowley said no talent in there yet. As he said he’s trying to develop a heritage. Our one by the way….Sneyd

Leeds benefits as it's a large city with really two teams: Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos. The competition against Rugby League in Wigan and St Helens is not there: Wigan have "Latics" but they're not United or City. There also seems to be a hostility between the two codes. I'm not bemoaning the efforts but it is going to be an uphill struggle.
It's not prehistory when there were 4 decent sides in the area: Salford, Swinton, Hornets and Oldham. Now: one. (I'm leaving Warrington out)

IIRC they signed a fair few lads from there a year or 2 back and these are the type of kids who should be pulling on the red jersey in years to come.

Delighted, but same as before, where has this money come from? I'm sure I heard on a podcast last year that we have more commercial deals and sponsorships kicking in this year than in previous seasons, all of which were multi year that allows longer planning. Pure speculation... maybe there are things we don't know yet about the council purchasing the stadium that could mean we get more money from matchday experiences... or maybe an investor is getting involved, like Gerrard. Also, we are retaining these players as oppose to tempting them from elsewhere so it isn't a given they are getting pay rises. Players like Watkins.and Burgess wouldn't have come cheap initially so I imagine they are signing similar deals. Croft would have been a pay rise I imagine. I like that the club are being proactive and signing players before waiting until their contract expires as has been the case in the past. It also prevents other clubs from negotiating with them. Massive pat's on the back for the club. I was born in 1984, so remember most of the 90s and beyond and I don't recall ever having such a spate of re-signings. Very much a feel good factor at the moment. I said on another thread, given the age of our squad we have a three year window, with these players. It's amazing to see them all committibg.

And most of the guys bar craft and budgie are 30+ so extended contracts offer them more security and are probably why we can afford it and are doing it.

One has moved to Wigan and seems to be doing well. I think the others are still at Warrington At least four Roosters in the Salford u18s plus a load in the development squads at Eccles college with the foundation Another rooster recently signed with Cas Academy Who knows how many will make it but I know they’re pretty much all salford fans and would love to play for us

Cheers RUTB. We're not exactly a RL hotbed so would be nice to think that the few local gems we produce via the schools/amateur game aren't plucked from elsewhere like Betts, Mozza & Watkins were.
