Undoubtedly a good player but the more I think the more I wonder where he will fit in.
Dobson and Lui in the halves and GOD at full back while Evalds is the perfect bench player to cover 1 through 6. Any of those 4 are too good to be leaving out of the 17 to accommodate someone who can be brilliant yet p!$$ it all (into his own mouth) in the same week.

Rule of thumb for signing Todd Carney seems to be - urine for a bumpy ride.

What's this Evalds is good for the bench.Like I have said if Evalds can't get in the team with this lot he might as well retire. If Evalds is only fit to sit on is back side then the lunatics are running the asylum.

Are we not maxed with non-fed players?
Vidot Carney Lui BMM Sau Hauraki Tasi
Although it does say in the operational rules that the RFL can waive this rule at their discretion. Could the club ask for a dispensation due to Carney's stature in the game? Grasping at straws? I think so.
I'd like to see him in a red shirt, but I'm also happy with what we have so no big deal either way.

Can he play centre? We need one & also another aggressive back rower.

Can you name a better utility back at the club? Sure Evalds should be in the team ahead of Vidot next season but think we all know that is unlikely to happen. Evalds is a better defensive full back and scores more tries than GOD but he is not the creative extra spark the coaching team have decided is needed. Evalds on the face of it looks like a better winger than Vidot but think the sheer money Vidot is on will dictate (injuries and weight allowing) start on the wing ahead of him. Evalds is not going to shift Carney if we gave him a contract for life. Evalds is not going to be as good a starting centre as either Sa'u or JJ but would I'm sure make a more than adequate 3 or 4 in an emergency. The only other back going to make the bench is Johnson and pace aside he is not going to offer the same versatility that Evalds does. Ergo Evalds is the pretty much perfect bench back.

And for the money Carney would command there are other areas in the squad that would be much more in need of strengthening.

Well if Evalds has any sense or a good agent he would get him away. And as for Sau he might be alright going forward but is defence is none existant sorry to disagree with you a season with a good coach would show what a good player Evalds really is.

No, Evalds for me would be a stop gap centre were as Sa'u is a high quality centre, defence might not be his forte but he more than creates enough for others and scores enough points to negate that.
I'd take Junior in the centres over a great many of the other SL imports, his heart is in it, he is a brilliant roll model and I'll guarantee you a future great for Salford. We could do with other players with his work ethic, morals and no nonsense approach to the game.
Niall can make a name for himself in the same vein at Salford, he is young, loved by his audience and will in time take an increased part of the future of the club.

So long as Watson manages evalds correctly it won't be a problem, there's no chance we are even getting through the first month without and injury to 1,2,3,3,5,6 or 7, and niall can cover all of those. He'll get plenty of game time
My worry if anything is he becomes a bit like ratch, where he never cements a position for himself because he's so versatile

I think the Carney interest is or could be a self inflicted wound for our club, he at arbitration in Oz at the moment and clearly the interest is not a two way street.
But he does make a big difference to a team on the pitch.

The Ratchford comparison is fair but ,as long as he's playing,I don't think Stef minds. It'll be the same with Evalds. He'll be in the 17 provided he's playing ok

His value increases because of his versatility and as a result he will get much game time than if he was just say an out and out winger.

I can't see Evalds at Centre ( Wing - Fullback - 5-8th )
Vidot has played all his career on the Wing ( mainly right wing )
Justin Carney however - played a large amount of his NRL Career as Left Centre ( Josh Griffins Position ) - especially at Roosters where he partnered Shaun - Kenny Dowell.
he shifted to wing when he landed at Cas as they had Shenton & Webster as 1st choice Centres
so O'Brien Evalds Carney / Bibby Sau Vidot / Johnson
... Sorted
