Wasn't born then, One thing I do Know this was the first ever game of Rugby league played under Floodlights. There's a plaque somewhere at old Tossord mentioning this match.

It would have been the first RL match played at Old Trafford under floodlights, they were added the season previously for the European cup games, until that point Utd had to play their European Cup & evening hosted matches at Maine Road! who had floodlights for a number of years .
Salford had played under floodlights as far back as the 20's against London Highfield at White City in fact the oldest record of the club playing under Floodlights was as the Cavendish Football Club when they played a floodlit game at Pomona Palace Gardens on November 9th 1878!

I was there ,was 17 years old and went with several mates.Leeds won 22-17 and the crowd was 8373 not bad for a Wednesday night,we bussed it there and walked home to Brindle Heath, those were the days.

Floodlights in 1878 !!! That probably involved catching thousands of Fireflys from Somewhere. It's not the first time something From Old Trafford has been proven untrue IE: David Moyes & Louis Van Gaal are Football coaches.

It will have been Electric Floodlights -I need to dig out the source ! An exhibition Football game had taken place a month before At Bramall lane. Sheffield where a reported 12,000 spectators had turned up . it was all the rage .. Pomona Palace Gardens rivalled London's Alexandra Palace in size at the time for exhibitions & events .
