Sad news.
When I was a kid and played my first RL season, I was fortunate enough to be presented with the player of the year by Les Bettinson. A lovely man, who couldn't do enough for you. I count myself lucky to have known his company. He became good friends with my Dad and I'm lucky to have heard his stories first hand.
Gutted.

He was a gentleman. Remember him from partnering Ernie Critchley in the centre, opposing a young Colin Dixon who broke Les’s nose, all the way through to his time as coach and being influential in bringing players through. A tremendous servant to the club RIP

Sad news indeed, as a young schoolboy I remember Les making his home debut in March 1957 along with Arthur Openshaw who was a local lad from Langworthy Juniors. Les was a true gentleman who was respected by all the people that knew him.RIP Les one of the best.

RIP Les
He and Mrs B sat in front of us a few times when my daughter and I used to sneak into the ‘posh seats’ at the willows. They were both lovely people
