We shouldn't judge the sport in the middle of a pandemic and economic problems all made worse by the Aussies with the WC and the RL Administration thinking this was a good time to suggest a restructure.

Russ this isn’t a problem of the past 18 months sadly. The whole of RL is run by self interested people, there is no strategy of any kind for developing and integrating the sport and we are run by a guy who doesn’t seem to have a clue.
And our Community Club is all about survival and has become a feeder for the bigger clubs and now with no ground. Every year the team has to change drastically.

Absolutely correct. This is a history of strategy and poor decision making. We’ve gone backwards and insular. Clubs in all sports indulge in self interest. We sort of expect that from them. I’d like to say that we’re an analogue sport in a digital world but I think we’re further off than that. No idea how to sort it from here, beyond my pay grade, but thiis isn’t any longer about the pandemic. That’s highlighted longstanding problems

V sad Yes the problems of self interest have been the blight of RL since 1895.
The economic difficulties that have plagued the sport were nothing like what's about to hit.
Making the jump from "feeder" to top club seems like just a matter of hard work and effort but that's just nonsense spread by the haves.
What I was refering to though was a present situation that has been made more pessimistic and worse by so many silly factors that it's hard to see the wood for the forest.

That’s highlighted longstanding problems I think it's more that we're a poverty ridden sport comparitively, run by people constantly reacting to problems and crises and unable to plan more than a fortnight ahead.

We are a pre-industrial revolution homespun sport in cloud-based AI world, with a gang of Luddites in control... I think that's a more appropriate analogy at the moment.
