This has always been a massive problem for RL. If everyone doesn't have an elite academy it creates a massive imbalance. Those that have it are free to recruit and take on kids from areas that should be covered by other teams. That then leads on to those academies being more successful over time which makes them attractive to new young lads from out of their catchment areas. The circle just keeps getting worse for those teams. You then factor in the dispensations for homegrown talent and it leads to further imbalance. It's why we have, for all intents and purposes, a two-tiered league with SL. American sports have long since solved this kind of issue with the draft system that works fantastically at evening-out the playing field for struggling and successful teams. They have the will, money and infrastructure to do it. We don't as a sport even though, in principle, it would be ideal.

Read it but like the 3 added that got picked we need a counter proposal to give to the RL
To complain as they have is good but to offer a counter proposal which stops the imbalance is the way forward. It seems to be about distribution of money which to me is not the point. And it says 'we'd like to know how the League will help' . It should be us telling them what we want from them.
Whilst I think it's great we've laid down a marker and complained; we now need to tell them what we want in terms of Funds Help getting schools going Use of expertise from RL and other clubs Protection of our Community Clubs etc etc
Let's not sit back and just fight about money, let's move forward at a fast pace and get RL going in schools, get the Academy moving etc

I agree with the problems the current system in RL but don’t understand how we could word a similar system to the American sports draft. As far as I understand, the draft is professional teams picking the best from a college system we don’t have here. College sport is huge over there and independent of the pro sports. What do we have that is in any way similar?

That was kinda my point, chief.
It works in the US because the infrastructure is in place and is designed around the draft system. We don't have that infrastructure therefore it wouldn't work here. In an ideal world the talent coming through would be spread evenly but it doesn't. What we have now is a few teams with a monopoly on the best talent due to a system that favours those clubs.

There’s a good interview with Paul Trainor about what the club and foundation are doing with local clubs and schools on last weeks devil in the detail podcast
From a community club point of view the engagement with the club is improving. The club ambassadors (players) are visiting the local clubs, there are training days for 12-16 year olds, developing teams at those age groups to represent salford against other clubs (Huddersfield and Bradford) and massive increased contact with schools (still an area that can be much improved)
This is being done jointly between the club and the foundation which isn’t without some tension and the key thing will be consistency and delivering on the ambitions. The track record isn’t great unfortunately. This feels different and that the commitment is better than ever so hopefully it will build and develop as planned

If its not on the official club website then it never happened

Good to see the Club is signing up Official School partners throughout Greater Manchester. Hope in Phase 2 they're going to set up with schools a Salford Schools or possibly Greater Manchester Scools RL competition.
