Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of Salford knocking Wigan out of the challenge cup after their nine years without losing a game.
What a day that was. Only Wigan away to get to the grand final has matched it since

Lucky to have been at both. Difficult to choose between the two.

The Second best part of the Match other than the Result was seeing Maurice Lindsay and the other Pies Directors Ashen faced and stunned and shocked deep in conversation walking back to the Dressing rooms They had budgeted for winning the Challenge Cup Yet again !! This shortfall in the budget caused them quite a few problems over the coming few years.🌝

Lucky to have been at both. Difficult to choose between the two. I think the semi final trumps it, both amazing days but beating them away to get to a final. One of the best nights of my life That said, to be in the shed that day was amazing, such an atmosphere. Great times

One of the best nights of my life That said, to be in the shed that day was amazing, such an atmosphere. Great times I agree with you, we were in Cyprus in 1996 but the whole hotel knew all about the result, the feeling was fantastic. The play off semi final really is the game with a performance put on by the team that was probably one of best overall performances by Salford team that I have ever seen, and the performance by the fans was just as memorable, even the Wigan fans were complementary while we were coming away.

Lucky to have been at both. Difficult to choose between the two. Me too. I thought the Semi final in 2019 was something else. A great performance in front of the best Salford away crowd I've ever seen in 45 years of watching. A really special day. What sways me in favour of the 96 game though is the result was so unexpected. The gulf in class between the two teams was massive with Wigan having the best team in the land. I think we were in the second division at the time and not forgetting that Wigan hadn't been beaten in the cup for about 9 years. It's a great feeling just thinking about it.

Dai Young that day was immense as a leader. I seem to remember Salford pushed Wigan off the ball at a scrum with their put in.
Also didn't realise we had, what seemed, two perfectly good tries disallowed for dubious forward passes given by the same linesman. Immense achievement.
The highs and lows of rugby. In one cup run We drew with Saints at home, beat them away in a replay, then beat Wigan away, big Frank Collier scoring against his old team, then lost to Dewsbury away after missing an easy goal.

Often overlooked that we were in the second division at the time. It was the final year before Super League contracts came into being - you wouldn't see a team keep players like McAvoy, Naylor, Blakeley or Panapa after relegation these days!

Geoff Simms missed the goal from under the sticks on the 25. Apparently,Frank thumped him on the coach after the game. I met him when he was a steward at OT cricket,he said he played pro rugby and I had to guess who he was. Frank was an immense man who had a very sad end,as many of us know.

It was lost more when Collier took on about four and managed to get the ball out and Murphy couldn't hold on to it.
I think they had a fight in the dressing room aftrwards!

I remember that goal kick miss from in front of the posts. The ground was frozen, and Simms couldn’t dig a hole for the ball. He had to have someone come and hold the ball, something we never see these days.
