For the first time in many years I am actually looking forward to this Super League season. I have no doubt that my interest in the league has been re-kindled partly because we have a competitive team that are enjoyable to watch ourselves, but the post-COVID rule changes have made for a far more entertaining game IMO. I'm also not at all ashamed to admit that my fanboy tendencies have kicked in at the prospect of seeing Greg Inglis running about in Super League. I remember being amazed watching the likes of Renouf and Langer running about in SL in the late 90s/early 00s.
Feels like the on-field product could be as good as it has been in quite some time in 2021... thoughts?

I'm with you on excitement, but I'm apprehensive about the covid situation. Putting back the start of the season has bought some time but 2021, I fear, will look a lot like 2020 as far as the SL goes. I can see fixture postponements, increased workload, and backlogs at the moment. The current state of the UK is worse than at any point in the previous lock down. I just can't see the upcoming season being anything but a repeat of last season at the moment. Hopefully that will change.

You may well be right, but let’s all go the optimistic route I’m really looking forward to the season and expect us to do well, not particularly because of rule changes, but because we’ve assembled the best squad that we’ve had for ages. I expect to Greg Inglis to be just as impressive as Gareth Widdop has certainly been 😉. Their year.

I find that ignoring the obvious will only lead to more disappointment when it eventually slaps you in the face. Preparing for the reality keeps you grounded.

Preparing for the reality keeps you grounded. Reality is a condition brought on by lack of alcohol 😉

Another prediction RL site (Serious about RL) puts us at 6th above Catalan 7th Judasfield 9th, then Cas Hullkr and Leigh Is that more like it?

Just looked at Judasfield squad numbers They have Yates and Lawrence at 8 and 10, both loose forwards and 1 and 2 in last year's tackling count.

Just looked at Judasfield squad numbers They have Yates and Lawrence at 8 and 10, both loose forwards and 1 and 2 in last year's tackling count. They have a decent squad. It's not a squad where you'd say they will be challenging for the top spot, but it's a squad that should be getting into play-off spots. The big question is whether Watson as a manager can deliver under pressure. Looking at the clubs that have had a degree of success recently and their coaching stats: Ian Watson 49% av win over 5 years Adrian Lam 58% av win 2 years Kristian Woolf 67% av win over 1 year Steve Price 59% av win over 3 years Richard Agar 58% av win over 2 years Steve McNamarra 49% av win over 4 years Based of those stats his record is pretty good, comparable to McNamarra's, but to get into those top echelons of SL you need to be hitting over 50%. Looking at how successful Woolf was it's surprising that he only has a 67% win rate which shows how difficult it's going to be for any coach to break into that top four area. Not forgetting that the likes of Lam, Woolf, Price and Agar have access to better squads than Hudds. In all probability Hudds will be scrapping around the bottom of the play-offs like we will be come the end of the regular season. There's always a surprise package and there's always a good side that under performs every season. Hopefully we'll be the former and Hudds will be the latter.
