That happened for a few matches if I remember correctly.
Maurice Richards had doubts about playing on a Sunday but came round to it quite quickly.

This reminded me of Lizzie Fiddler's off - licence and taking your jug to get filled and Burgon's ice-cream talking about long gone.
Do you remember Lou's Cafe Next to Disc City on Cross Lane. I remember Disc City but not Lou's Cafe but that could be with my memory making an exit early doors.

The family ended up being taught by me! Without my knowing they were Vinnies for years … I was eating their ice cream from at least 1962 and probably before.
Small world.

Do I remember rightly that we played Blackpool Borough at home one Boxing Day or New Year's Day and it was our first ever game on a Sunday and the Sunday Trading laws at the time stated that the club couldn't charge for entrance and so they let you in for 'free' and your turnstile money was for the Club Christmas card they gave you on entering? Pardon me, if this is miles off. HNY! Kids also got a free ice lolly and it was FREEZING

Who brought up the subject of ice cream? Our local ice cream firm was Gotelli's. They had a shop on Conran Street, Moston (or Harpurhey - I never did know where the boundary was) and vans that toured the neighbourhood. Vanilla was the only flavour and it was served with raspberry sauce from an old style vinegar bottle. Bloody lovely it was!

And the world famous Snotty Lucketti, ice cream in the cold months and hot potatoes in the ice, going round the ground in his long white apron, dripping continually.
Funnily enough I went to an outdoor play in darkest Cheshire and on the side, as part of the scenery, the famous Lucketti cart.
Used to love NY Day matches with my old fella and then my grans meat n potato pie afterwards, with proper beetroot n red cabbage.
Think, as some of the Yorkshire teams do, have a charity rugby match on NY Day.

Yes Russ and I was there most nights,Sunday night to the Don supper bar for a meat and potato pie for supper. As there has been more than one mention of MTP's I was reminded of two memories: One playing the game Whip! Where you shouted whip when you found any meat in your pie. And the other was two SRD fans who used to call the man who sold from a van at Victoria bus station "Dai the Pie." I have to say he probably wasn't even Welsh!
