It's crossed my mind a bit during the off-season that with the UK's Covid problem spiraling out of control for a second time, I often wondered how long it would be until southern hemisphere based players in the UK decided that enough is enough for themselves and family. It seems the first one has happened over Xmas with Leeds Rhinos Ava Seumanufagai saying that he has had to think of his family and returns down under with immediate effect.
I will be surprised if he's the only one to be honest, and wonder if attracting Aussies or Kiwis is going to be significantly harder for UK teams this season coming?
One thing's for sure, with SL teams chasing props like they are gold dust, Leeds losing a key one adds another team looking into the mix, which makes me think that the clubs recruitment of so many versatile back-rowers has put us in a better position than many. I think playing without too many definitive props but a healthy amount of capable back-rowers will be to our benefit.

The thing is Leeds do have a replacement don't they?
One thing not discussed yet is whether or not scrums will be back.
If the lighter/quicker players are more useful because of this that would be understandable and would suit SRD down to the ground.
And there's still the WC to consider.
Also Luckley looks powerful and quick which will add to the armoury.

Anyone returning to Australia need check their rules on entry to that country: far more severe than ours. And costly. Also, as Russ points out: what rules will be played: I would expect the coming World Cup would cause the Australians to insist on their version

Big props aren’t needed for the scrum anymore. They are needed for powerful runs away from defence and on the opposing try line. We have Pauli, Ika and Luckley for that. Mobile 2nd rowers are the order of the day for the rest of the game I think. We need to find someone to do Lussick’s job near the try line and we are sorted I think.

I was under the impression that there was International rules as well as SL and NRL. I may be wrong on this. Someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to enlighten me. Presumably with it being a covid issue, it will be interesting to see how that effects rule changes.

There's no way the Kangaroos need any help to win the trophy but conforming to rules they're used to is simply not acceptable. It's probably what will happen but that won't make it okay. There are international rules but unless we're all back to reasonably normal something will need to be sorted but that shouldn't mean giving the advantage to a country that is a guest at the WC here when all's said and done.
