I think that anyone looking to pump money into the sport in these dire times has to be welcomed.

Warily a positive thing.
The NRL is without doubt the premier competition, but people in this country need to be careful for what they wish for. Expansionist fans think it will be the second coming of the messiah, even though the NRL isn't quick to look to expand from what it has. The thing they are keen on, is to amalgamate what they see as clubs that are surplus to their requirements. Remember that they've happily merged teams and got rid of others entirely to get where they are. There's no way they'd look at SL and say that two Hull sides are required, or Wakey and Cas. Not sure they'd see the value of Salford either. I could see them insisting on a name change to Manchester however, and let's not go back down that route...
They have the marketing and the money to make a real difference, but that difference may come at a cost for those willing to take the coin...

Couldn't agree more.
I know what I'm about to say is as likely was a wooden horse winning the Grand National but if this is thing then the RFL/SL need to use common sense (see I told you), they would need to insist on no mergers, name changes (unless voluntary) or relocations.
What I would see happening is quota spots would become a thing of the past and younger fringe players from down under would be farmed out to use to blood them and then taken back when they become and asset. I could see there being even less career pathways for young talent who would be lost to the game, go to RU or bimble around in the lower divisions.

Agree, the only reason they would do this would be to benefit themselves at no care to anything else. We do need investment and importantly people who want to grow the game, but not at the detriment of what we already have. Thanks, but no thanks

What I never understand about the potential Private Equity Company bids and again now the NRL potential bid is why we don't get our act together. There seems to be no long term plan, aka Toronto and the many failed other franchises over the years. No move to really get into schools, or develop say 9s comps throughout Europe etc. We just seem have this opportunist attitude with the top 4 sides wanting to keep control and keep the glory. And teams like Wakefield and Cas within a stones throw of each other each year promising to get new grounds and playing in derelict stadia. We keep waiting around around for investors and when they don't come moan, as we do with crowd numbers. We seek snooker bosses as though they have a silver bullet
The RU did a plan to expand and now its thriving in schools and throughout the world. They have made a mistake with a Private Equity, because where does the money go...into players pockets. ButRU has expanded massively because they got a plan to expand, funded and executed it. Went out for a meal in N Portugal and ended up talk king yo a group of guys about 7s RU
So let's get it all to together, stop this waiting for someone else to sort, work long and hard on a proper strategic plan combing SL. Championship, League 1 and amateur/ community and schools sides and stop all the whinging, dreaming of winning the lottery and get it sorted. The expertise is there. But sadly parachialism and self interest stops it.
If we get big bucks off these bo

The NRL has had its own management problems in recent years, but they are lightyears ahead of our motley crew of incompetants. It's for precisely that reason that I cannot see SLE accepting any sort of investment from the NRL.
Personally I would like to see it because Super League needs better management to take it forward, but doubt it'll happen.

It may be good financially but I think we'd see the Super League teams stripped of all their top players playing in the NRL. It may be good for the national team but I think the SL teams would be made up of older NRL Players and the weaker English players. The NRL will be looking at this for their benefit not ours
