Wilkins didn't state what a fantastic triumph over disaster Salford had achieved he just went on criticising aspects like poor kicking, unstructured play. Up his own.. Now Torontos gone bust he's looking for a job. How about doing some real graft like reffing

Wilkin was all for Saints in his commentary, even at the end it was about how many mistakes we had made not how we got through the adversity of having so few players available.

While Wilkin undoubtedly knows his stuff, he is far too biased and far too in love with the sound of his own voice to be a commentator. I really enjoy the Out of your league podcast but it is often ruined by having to listen to Wilkin drone on and on about himself/his point/his opinion. We could do worse as a sport to bring someone outside of RL to commentate. The likes of Chappers on BBC is a good example of bringing in from outside. It broadens appeal, gets rid of bias, and comes across far more professional.

I like John Wilkin generally as he is one of the brighter pundits (and is a good mate and business partner of Flash).
My main gripe isn’t that he’s a Saints fan.
It’s that he seems to haven taken a leaf out of Jamie Jones Buchanan’s guide to philosophy and the meaning of life. We know that RL players are unbelievably rugged,brave and committed but all the reflections on life are a bit OTT.
It will be existentialism next

He is excellent - the NFL Show that he also presents is hands down the best sporting programme on TV. I have long wondered why the RFL/SL don't lobby harder for a say over who the BBC and Sky let present our game - there are some absolute clowns acting as the voice of our sport. |
