It was my interview Carnster, I could hear the intonations in his voice change as he was talking about it. Some of his mates from KR are in that situation and so he clearly feels very strongly. As I said in the article, he said didn't particularly celebrate. That's backed up by the Sky commentary (I must have watched the last 10 mins about 50 times so far ) they mention at the end there's a lot of class by many of the Salford players going over to console the KR players as they know that could have been them and they said that Flanagan was one of them. Again as I said in the article, there were no winners that day, only one team that stayed up and one that went down. Amazing finish and Sky got the drama it craved for (every minute matters) but agony for the people playing the sport. Very sad. Enjoyed the article. Was nice to read about things that don't get that much airing generally. Keep up the good work! Thank you. Got a few more things in the pipeline so watch this space. Spoke to a guy yesterday who said a very similar thing to Dixon13 about the RFL and Rugby League in general. I think our sport's governors need to look at how to genuinely grow the game in this country... not just the 'North' and certainly not just bringing foreign clubs into the leagues, Toulouse, and Wolfpack etc. that's not enough. Magic Weekend, great as a one off - but what is then being done in Newcastle to grow it afterwards? - how many tickets are sold within a 50 mile radius of that ground? Could they be made cheaper if you're local - sorry I know that may go against the grain for some who follow the teams everywhere, but if that fills the ground and creates more atmosphere why not? Plus couldn't being a season ticket holder give us some subsidy on Magic weekend tickets? etc. etc. There's plenty of people in and around our game with ideas, but it seems either they are not being asked, or being heard and then patted on the head, told to go away and the idea ignored completely.

Think you need to differentiate between the powers that be who have bad ideas and the genuine few who have good ideas jeffmcrib.
Always said it that the RFL is worse than the Masons for being a closed shop.

Always said it that the RFL is worse than the Masons for being a closed shop. Agreed. I know it can't be all bad, otherwise there would be no game at all. I think it's more a frustration and you saying about the RFL being a closed shop is case in point. They appear to only embrace change if it's come from within.

The trouble with RL, and I use that as a blanket term taking in the likes of BARLA and the RFL, is that they are laden with little powermongers who see ideas from outside the circle as a challenge to their authority. It becomes a perpetuating circle of mistrust, bad ideas, and ignorance a lot of the time. Occasional good ideas escape their ideological echo chamber but more often than not it's all about the politics of keeping themselves in their jobs first, and RL second. It's frustrating as someone looking in and seeing the nonsense that prevails.

It's frustrating as someone looking in and seeing the nonsense that prevails. There's an awful lot of in-group v out-group mentality to the RFL and RL generally. Treating people badly has become a norm for what to do about people who disagree with our way of thinking. So criticizing has become the second favourite sport for RL followers. And you have the RFL berating chairmen and vice versa. RL fans being abusive on forums, all this is negative and counter productive. At no point does it seem to be recognized we're actually on the same side, RL's side! All of us....... Lecture over!
