If you believe League Freak (and I don't know why you wouldn't) the recently announced deal with Papa Johns is another Stobartesque doozy.
If LF is right we've given away a load of free advertising in exchange for a few crappy pizzas for players and officials after games.
And to think on a different thread people are suggesting that Robert Elstone is going to get the best deal possible for the next TV deal.

If this is true,it’s bloody ridiculous. Even if only partly true it's ludicrous. Did think it was odd when it was announced as surely a discount for fans would have been the way to go but no just free pizzas for players and staff. |

If this is how the RFL Sponsorship Director views the game we have no chance of raising real funds.
Thus If the people inside don't value it, why should sponsors value it?
Think this is a major part of our problem; we see it as a poor man's sport. If that's where you place your hat, that's the level at which you get paid.

League Freak is a stirrer but he's correct on this one. It's now being reported in RL media. Poor show by the RFL as usual. We're a sport that's surviving by the seat of our pants but the governing body thinks that free advertising is the way forward. Beggars belief to be honest.

It's progress from mushy peas.
I will criticise the commercial side as much as anyone but RL is not going to attract blue chip companies in the current financial crisis.
Rugby league is not a household concern: we need it to be before we attract more.
