Gus Gould would favour the NRL to the detriment of the competition here, make no mistake.
If there was a real plan to make the competitions very similar it would be great.

I'm neither for or against. I can see pros and cons both ways. I think closer working between the two can only be beneficial. If a takeover means the game survives rather than fades away at some point then it's a no-brainer.

I can’t see much in it for the NRL If it got off the ground it would make RL a world wide product.

I listen to his podcast every week, and with regards to the bigger picture for the game I think he often speaks a lot of sense (sometimes less so about individual issues around a player or club).
He's very close to the current Chairman of the NRL (V'landys) whose stock in turn is currently very high with the Aussie RL rank and file. If Gould is saying it, V'landys is thinking it.
Gould has long been pretty critical of how the NRL has been run, but it's frankly lightyears ahead of SL. Whilst a large part of me would not want to see the Aussies "buying" our game, it's hard to see the change required to move our game to next level coming from within the current SL leadership. I haven't checked, but presumably SL(E) Ltd is owned by the clubs, and therefore would need their buy in for any takeover to occur. Unless Sky decided to use their leverage to force it...

Your faith in Gould is the opposite to my reading of him and his intentions. But I'd love to be wrong!

Great idea, Rugby League needs to work together to grow the game and Super League could learn a lot from the NRL, especially when it comes to negotiating broadcasting and sponsorship deals.
