I bought my first car the day before the game, a Toyota Starlet, and thought that I would give it a good run out. Some great players there.

And then Some years later when they moved after being kicked out from Ninian park to Bridgend Before the ground was renovated The Club shop was the back of a Volvo estate and Bridgend had a Ex American Football Kicker and Rugby kicking coach Dave Aldred on the wing ,Couldn't tackle but he got there only points through penalty kicks from there own half !!

A Dave Alfred was Johnny Wilkinsons kicking coach, regarded as the best around at the time. Must be one of the same. John Wilky got him down to coach our kickers in the time Hodgson and others were kicking (poorly). Think Hogson missed a sitter against Harlequins? and we lost the game, which probably prompted it.

I remember going down to that game and it certainly doesn't seem nearly 40 years ago. How time flies when you're having fun

I worked down south at the time and went to the Stoop and watched that game, early season if I remember correctly. I was appalled because when the decisive kick came ,they all looked around for a volunteer as nobody seemed to want the responsibility. Reluctantly Hodgy took it and,as you say, missed an easy one

Correct the same fellow Dave Alred MBE PHD Nowadays , He was the kicker for Minnesota Vikings in 1979 He was banned for life by the RU For playing in the NFL He had one season at Bridgend RL 1984/85.
