There's a 3 or 4 of these anti-vaxers now, seems like an odd take on things if you ask me.

The tennis player Djokovic outed himself as one the other week. It is very strange but with sports people it is perhaps an extension of the extremes they go to diet wise (a lot of that is unscientific as well) to improve their performance - in no way am I making excuses for them though.

It's the Same with Measles, In the last three years the UK Has gone from Being measles free to having a rate of infection that's risen each year , If a Player at a Rugby Club or any sporting club passes any Virus then it'll spread far more quickly with the amount of people they come in contact Daily. Also I believe that Flu in Warmer countries spreads quicker than cider climates as Germs multiply F faster in heat.

KB think you'll find generally it's the other way round. Flu and general viruses tend to thrive in cold weather. Scientists fear is that we have to get this totally under control before Nov.

This is incorrect. the only reason certain viruses thrive in winter/colder climates is because people tend to be physically closer together, and a lot of the time sharing the indoors more than normal. Scientists want it under control because seasonal flu is around the corner. Those whose immune systems are weakened by covid will be finished off by the flu if they catch it. Plus, the stress on top of the NHS puts more lives at risk. As for Bryce Cartwright, he's a dull boy who thinks like this because he married an anti-vaxxer. There's quite a few players taking this stance in the NRL. Some because of religious reasons (There aren't any) others, like Cartwright, taking a moral stance (It isn't one) They should not play if this is the case. The NRL has a duty to protect as best it can. No vaccination no play. Simple. The problems arise when religion rears its head. The NRL just need to be firm and say no to these players. I've never understood the religious angle as no religion mentions anything about vaccination. Quite ironic as the same players will have had regular pain-killing injections to allow them to play. People are generally stupid though, so we'll see where it goes.

There is an effect of people bring closer together but , in general, viruses are develop more at lower temperatures than higher. V high temperatures can destroy viruses but not v low,

There is an effect of people bring closer together but , in general, viruses are develop more at lower temperatures than higher. V high temperatures can destroy viruses but not v low, From scientific American: The answer as to why flu is a winter disease is not fully known. However, flu is spread largely by droplet (aerosol) infection from individuals with a high viral level in their nasal and throat secretions, sneezing and coughing on anyone close at hand. The aerosol droplets of the "right" size (thought to be about 1.5 micrometers in diameter) remain airborne and are breathed into the nose or lungs of the next victim. Situations in which people are crowded together are more common in cold or wet weather--and so perhaps this contributes to spreading the flu at these times. It is interesting that in equatorial countries, flu occurs throughout the year, but is highest in the monsoon or rainy season.

Agree Carnster but viruses, if you check the science ( how very modern) identifies that viruses are generallt less prevelantvas temp increases. But I hope we all work together to get rid of this. Finding it very galling with all the politics Realise you've been thro the bad times C, good luck with this.

There's quite a few other now, but there's the odd situation where the Gold Coast players are to be banned (by order of the Queensland government) if they don't relent while the players based in NSW are OK because the authorities there have a different policy.
