The Government (Conservative - not known for throwing money about) is massively in hock in a number of areas with no timeframe for recouping that money. It has by all accounts set a number of conditions to this loan. It would be a bit foolhardy to plan for them to write it off. They may end up doing but to plan for that would be asking for trouble.

Sadly rugby league being what rugby league is you just know that some clubs will take an 'educated' risk that this is the scenario that will result, but you also know the rugby league being rugby league what it is that the RL authorities will bail them out (especially if it was a big boy) if they can't pay back what they owe.
I know I must sound like a conspiracy theorist but I've seen to many times rugby league justify it actions purely because the game might suffer if it didn't.
I maintain that they should divvy it up and offer it to the clubs, it is then a choice if it is taken, if they say no then that money then goes back to the RFL to be banked towards the government refund.

The likes of Leeds, Saints and Wigan have the reserves to take that risk but we don’t unfortunately. And as you say the RFL might be more willing to step in for them down the line than they would for us. I’m not too fussed how it is divided up as long as we get enough to keep going to be honest.

MR you do sound like a conspiracy theorist ! We’re overthinking this. It’s a matter of survival, for the RFL authority too. If we need the money then it should be applied for and used, simply to continue to exist. It shouldn’t be used as a bonus to spend more on players. When it’s due to be repaid is tomorrow’s problem, along with a thousand others.

It's cheap money so we should max it out. We don't have to spend it but it's there if we don't use it. Safety as we're not the type of club that could probably get big loans with the CVA still there If we don't use it then pay it back, interest rate probably near to zero.

Is the money purely to help the clubs survive or can it go towards administration or wages at HQ?

Word coming out of the RFL/Super League (Elstone on Sky) that promotion and relegation will officially be scrapped for this season. Makes sense.

I've seen plenty of calls for the league to be expanded to 14 teams and it kind of makes sense and it easier on the back of this.

14 teams a possibility but it requires the existing clubs to take less money and I’m not sure they ever would, particularly at the moment. I suspect Elstone will become increasingly marginalised, unless he has a wowser tv deal up his sleeve. I hope he has.
