JJR, you miss the key conversation of the last two decades. The only CITY up there is Carlisle. You need to be in a metropolis to win trophies, no one supports a little place any more. it is not 21st Century. The whole idea of promotion and relegation is to be replaced by who has the fancy city names. So SL will be (amending the above) Saints of Liverpool Manchester North Hull Manchester South Leeds Toronto Ottawa Catalan Toulouse Belgrade New York Barcelona :-)

I’m all for a trip to New York but I think I’ll give Belgrade a miss to be honest!

For interest the Cumberland League has two divisions of about 8 teams and 3 semi pro teams, yet do not seem to be supported for a SL team. But I suppose Valencia, Belgrade, Ottawa are better destinations than the Lake Distruct. Who is not supporting them JJR? I think everyone would like to see a fully professional Cumbrian team in super league. But they don’t have the finances or the wherewithal to do it. They have had 120+ years to get themselves in a position to survive at the top level of the sport, same as us. We’re clinging on. They aren’t. Who is supposed to fix that for them?

Depends how you look at things RUTB. You can just wait around until some bright spark from a foreign city comes along and wants to spend some money, generally rashly like Marwan did with us, then departs, or you can plan your way forward. Catalan have stuck and helping French RL develop but why doesn't the International RL build French RL from the roots up solidly.
My view is that the roots are there in Cumbria and there could be a plan to take it to the next level and it could then prosper to Carlisle Lancaster etc and initially maybe include Newcastle with the right support.
My frustration is RL never seems to plan, it just seems to drift waiting for something to happen.
And Toronto, Catalan matches don't excite me but Leigh Widnes even Swinton derbies do interest me. I just wonder where it will end up. I must admit to not being as interested now. SBW seen him, a failing star, and so what.

JJR,your last paragraph paints the real picture, and the real world dictates the fortunes of Swinton,Widnes,Leigh and, indeed,us. Where are we now ? Away trips to Perpignan and Toronto excite lots of people, with more on the way. Enjoy the ride

Away trips to Perpignan and Toronto excite lots of people, with more on the way. Enjoy the ride Swinton Rochdale Oldham were all killed by the so called franchise system, which nearly bankrupt us but allowed Castleford and Wakefield to thrive by staying in their delapidated stadia. And now ripped up. Rather than helping these clubs to thrive the RL has killed them by their Superleague rules. Now sadly Widnes and Leigh going that way and you're right, we're probably next. Good luck if you keep wanting to go to Toronto, Perpignan, Ottowa, Belgrade, New York, Valencia and to basically see the same players you would in Lancashire, Yorkshire or Cumberland that's fine by me. Been to most of those places and lots of better places to see. Sorry I just don't get it. But thats what what makes life interesting, we're all different😉

If you do ever make it to Belgrade, I offer some advice If you were a Member of one of the Armed forces that was part of the NATO countries that bombed that City Don't mention it in a Bar in a Residential area full of locals Even if you are Pissed. I would have beaten Usain Bolts world record On that summers evening around 10 years ago.

One reason a Cumbria team won't work is are fans from Barrow In The Middle of Knoweregoing to travel up to Workington all the time to watch a manufactured team.
No.
