Why when it's plain to everybody watching and there's foul play doesn't the video ref step in; as in Union. Or change the rules if they're not allowed to.
In the Wigan/Wire match
,Partington put an elbow in Austins throat, not seen by the ref but seen by the video ref; no action Wigan prop gouges Austin, seen by the video ref, a sending off offence; put on report
Totally stupid, everyone watching saw both incidents, the video ref saw them but no action. And it affects the outcome of this game. In Union they are a bit OTT but at least they get it right.
Never mind all the seasons hype, we're amateurish when it comes to this. Get the game, especially the reffing up to a higher level. And Sky surely there's better commentators around than the Mcdermott
Yes it's started, 1st rant over

The Video Ref used to get involved in foul play but the players abused it. If there was any contact with the head, however little, they used to stay down until the VR had checked it and they got a penalty. Then they’d be up like a spring lamb. It happened quite a few times against us. It was slowing the game down loads. People were complaining about it. So they changed it and now can only get involved if it is a clear red card. They can’t win can they?
Maybe they should change it to yellow? It’s the players who were milking penalties fault it isn’t done anymore. I don’t think the comparisons with union really work. There are far more stoppages in Union so it doesn’t disrupt the game so much

Fair point RUB but sadly last night Wigan clearly, to me, should have had one sin binned and one sent off, along with yet more v strange decisions from Kendall, who's still learning. I'd rather see a slightly slower game but with the right decisions. If players cheat with injuries then penalise them.
The debate was for two refs, when they have two ie the video ref they don't use him properly. Odd when refs get decisions wrong, as they always will, the errors are seen, but ignored. And, as we know, Wigan are more professional (cheat) more than most.

I thought the play the balls this season were all to be played by the foot. I dont think the RFL have told the refs about this, last night there was plenty of players still stepping over the ball.

Always felt to me that they were playing to the gallery in that one - lots is older RL types get very upset about it. With one ref it is almost impossible to police when the ref is checking for interference, markers being square, defenders on side etc. There is bound to be the occasional one spotted and given. So we will end up with claims of inconsistency/bias etc. there could have been easily 30+ scrums in that game last night for no attempts to use the foot. Is that what we want to see at the start of the ‘most exciting SL season ever’

If the PLB had been picked up by the ref ,early on, it would of disrupted the game in its early stages only. The players would have responded and plb correctly

Good point RUB and I'm sure when Child's refs that's possibly what it'll be. But returning to VR, Desicionsinvolving blatant foul play, forward passes could v easily be remedied. All about balance and making the game fairer.

It was a bit confusing what had actually changed and what the players need to do. Some were taking their time to get up and play the ball properly and others were not. It was a bit strange. It was never going to be perfect in week one though.

It was never going to be perfect in week one But the refs have got to start being tough with the PTB, then it will be adhered to early in the season and the remainder of the season
