Absolutely awful news that Rob Burrow has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Amazing player and really nice guy, heartbreaking to watch his interview. Hope he and his family have all the help they can. So sad

So sad that there are still diseases that they can't even explain never mind cure.
Shocking to see such a brilliant rugby player only 2 years ago struggle with his speech.
Do hope the RFL does lots through the season and that all other clubs get involved too.

I don't know enough about MND but I would imagine as a smaller player all those high shots may have contributed?
Separately to me trying to get an understanding of it, this is a time when all the RL family need to come together to support Rob and his family .
I want to throw this out to the Reds fans, what can we do as a club/supporters to help raise money and awareness for this?

Magic weekend should not be different clubs promoting different charities just all pulling together to support MND.
Obviously not the main factor but can you imagine the great press that the port of RL would garner by doing so.
Doddie Weir should be the guest of honour but above all the RL family all pulls in 1 direction for once.

His interview on BBC website brought a lump to the throat. Great player. Tough bloke. Horrible disease.

Scientists know that there seems to be a genetic component to it, and there's no evidence that blows to the head have anything to do with it. The synapses of the nerves that control motor functions slowly stop working, so speech, breathing, limb movement etc slowly stop working. A very upsetting condition for everyone.
