I don't think it was to much of a surprise that we lost. I know Wayne Bennett is doyen where coaching is concerned, but is it ideal having the head coach on the other side of the world,or does it not matter.

My thoughts exactly, he might be a big good but when he doesn't see the players first hand week in week out it just doesn't work.
I do hope he isn't the national coach come the WC or it's just not worth turning up.

With the best players wanting to test themselves in the NRL, or being swayed by the money, half the squad are based in Australia. Whether the coach is based here or there, they can’t see everyone play week in week out.

I think Tonga are a breath of fresh air, more passion and skill than I wonder than GB expected. Lose Widdop and Coote , put Hardacker back to Fullback and let Johnny Lomax Run the show.

Fair point, but do you honestly think we don't better wingers than those who started yesterday? have a better centre than playing a FB there, I'm surprised we didn't get Watkins involved because he has such a stellar time on the Gold Coast since his mid season switch.

Slightly off topic but I wonder/hope Watto manages to identify a couple of players for next year. Either fringe NRL or an islander. I’ve seen a few variations of the starting 17 on another thread but we were lucky with injuries this year and with the reserve grade coming in we’ll need a bigger squad. Another signing or 2 to be announced post GB tour ? Yes please 🤞

Yes please 🤞 I said this on another thread but I also think the JH story will stand us in goodsted, it can't have escaped anyones notice that he has come to a club and turned himself into a cult hero, I'm sure any talented young NRL players would jump at that chance and experience.
