Signed for Wakey. 2 year deal which is bold considering his injury record. I hope he gets back to full fitness though. Good luck to him.

Yes good player, nice lad and good to see him in the 19 at the end, but sadly at least three shoulder ops, the worst thing for a rugby player, so much can go wrong.
Assume Lannon signed after the Cas match so at least we have one of the old Academy left. That's the direction we need, grow your own. Saints Academy off to Auss again and taking all the local talent including another from Folley with them. Saves so much and can make so much, the less well off footy clubs thrive on them. Need a pathway from schools to first team. I think I heard Blease pushing this on the radio.
But they cost.,

Of course Wood, Lannon, Bibby, Evalds, at least. Worth a few bob on the open market. Seems to be where we should be heading.

There is a really big reason financially to have successful youngsters come through, and that's the cap deduction. Every successful player that comes through the academy system to play first team, after a set number of appearances the club that brought them through get a percentage reduction on that player, even if they play for other clubs. I can't remember the exact numbers, but it effectively means that you can pay a home grown player more but it counts less on your overall cap. That reduction grows if they become Internationals. It's supposed to be a system that encourages growth of academy products, but in reality it is currently allowing the likes of Leeds, Wigan, and Saints to pay players more but stick to the cap so it is pretty unbalanced currently. That's maybe not their fault, and it is just reward for bringing through new talent, but it makes it awfully hard for other teams to produce talent if it gets constantly hoovered-up by three or four big clubs.
