Been thinking about how incredible our season has been.
There's a certain irony that Saints were the side that pushed the button for our lads to really believe that they can go all the way, back when they scraped a dodgy last minute winner against us. There's certainly a few more steps to go before we can go just that one last step to being where Saints are this year. That step is getting in a few more solid players in and learning from all the lessons we had this season.
As far as the playing side of things have gone, there isn't much complaint from me. Watson managed to flick that switch which is so hard to find in team sports, the switch that gets a team believing, playing on top of their game, and being consistent. We were never perfect, and that's a good thing because it always gives even great teams something to aim for, and on a few occasions we were pretty close to hitting that elusive perfect performance. Wigan away was pretty close.
Off the field, the club has come on leaps and bounds. Engaging fans and media. Constantly pumping out great soundbites and making the whole club feel open and fans part of its journey. Long may this continue. The club shop opening and doing great business, and just the whole club being more professional yet managing to still inject itself into the community is a credit to the small team who work really hard behind the scenes. I hope the club doesn't rest on its laurels and keeps pushing forward.
My only concern is for next season, and specifically those thousands of fans that have got on board during the play-offs and GF.
We need them at the AJBell next season. We can't keep relying on Watson trying to perform miracles every year. I can only imagine what he could do with a settled side, and a larger cap. We can only get this with more through the gates, and I heard Paul King on an interview say that season tickets for next season will actually be coming down in price. He wants more bums on seats, and I hope that this seasons momentum means that a few more will be tempted to come on board.
Rather than being overly disappointed after last night, I'm really excited for next season already. it's been an amazing year to be a die-hard Salford fan, hopefully it wont be a once in a lifetime event, and it wont be if those extra people show-up next season.
