What would Watson have to do to win coach of the year if this wasn’t enough?

It’s all about relative expectation. Saints are expected to win trophies. We were expected to fail. Saints have marquee players and resources beyond measure. We have had to do it all on a shoestring with our best players leaving every year. In some ways I sympathise with the judges because this award can’t be easily given till after the GF, but if we turn them over at old Trafford it really will look silly.

Saints are the best team this year obviously but thats in large part down to their world class players. We’ve massively overachieved in large part due to Watson’s coaching. I’d say the judges took the easy choice there - pretty much every journalist predicted/chose Watson.

The voting was strangely done in August so id assume that was why.

Totally embarrassing that tonight. We have some of the biggest bell ends in Super League. Holbrook Sixteen points clear CC final and GF and you think Watson should have won it😳 He was even embarrassed in the speech he gave having to apologise for actually winning it. Booing a great coach and a nice bloke as well puts Salford in a really bad light. Well done

I’d say the judges took the easy choice there - pretty much every journalist predicted/chose Watson. The bar must have dropped about a foot to become world class. I would say they have some very good players

I can see both sides of the story and to be honest for different reasons both coaches deserves to win. Justin Holbrook was superb in his acceptance speech and pointed out that if the vote had taken place later it could have been a different result. This was in the middle of people chanting "We've got Ian Watson..." Pure class from Holbrook and well done to him as Saints have been superb all year

Three coaches really deserve it for different reasons, but how do you choose between Saints, Salford & London? Probably took the safe option.

Don't forget the impact Holbrook had at Saints. They were crap under Cunningham and Holbrook really turned them round. I agree with JJR. Holbrook, Watson and Ward all deserve huge credit for their work this year. Personally, I'd've voted for Watson, but I am biased.
