Good stuff - if nobody calls him out the plonker will just carry on talking nonsense. It’s not just us - he talks garbage about every team but Wigan. They are all plonkers on sky. Clarke and the to jabbering idiots.

He’s paid to help Sky make money. Saying controversial stuff generates interest and therefore publicity. Not a big fan but he’s backed Salford at least as many times as he’s bagged them. As I say it was a back handed compliment. Don’t agree about the players being championship standard (but plenty have on here) but I do agree that we’ve far exceeded expectations and that under a different coach we wouldn’t have done nearly so well Agree totally. It was meant as a compliment but he got it badly wrong.

If he said it to be controversial he is a fool.He also could have said this Wigan team has got nobody in it that would have got in the Wigan team he played in.

Good presenters (and journalists while we are at it) can generate interest without resorting to cheap tricks. It is a general pet peeve of mine though so I’ll leave it there before I ramble on about it. I absolutely agree with you. One of my pet hates is how much airtime is given to people just to be ‘controversial’ (Piers Morgan being my least favourite). Dixon13 - IMO Phil Clarke is an ok pundit who says some good things but spends most of his time with his foot in his mouth. I’m not sure he deliberately was trying to be controversial. I think he just got it very wrong. Given the number of stupid things he says (Salford to win SL in 2015??) I suspect sky keep him on because he generates debate and on line clicks with his stupidity. I could bd wrong but that’s my take

Anyway. Thanks for sone distraction from my nerves about tonight. It’s a lot easier arguing about Phil Clarke than thinking about the game 😂

Looking at that.He and the players did not think it was a back handed comment.
