Absolutely fantastic wasn't it and I'm sure he pulled off a similar one against a Wigan winger in the cup semi final two years ago. But interestingly if you are aware of the science of sprinting it was always very likely that he would have achieved the tackle. Rankin, by the time he was reaching the try line had already run about 70 metres and was slowing down. Even top 100 metre athletes are slowing down at around 60 metres and it is only between 30-50 metres that they are running at maximum speed. Evalds had only covered about 50 metres and was probably at that stage sprinting at his max. So it was no real surprise that he did what he did. But thats the science and doesn't detract from a perfect chase and tackle. Chucking Rankin over the touchline was an extra bonus! I couldn't sleep let alone spayk last night with that scene constantly replaying in my head.

If Evalds hadn’t flipped him into touch he might have slid in for the try anyway- superb all round.

The readjustment to roll Rankin into touch, at top speed, was top class.

The readjustment to roll Rankin into touch, at top speed, was top class. I haven't watched it back yet but aparantly they scrutinised it on sky after the game, saying how technically difficult is was and what an effort, not just to get there but have the intelligence and like you say, the ability to adjust and get him into touch. Jacko did a similar one early in the season at home V Saints.

It wasn’t catching him that made the tackle it was the completion. Is there any Withers v Brown footage on YouTube?
