Ah really should have read the small print especially when I was so cynical about it being accurate in the first place. Still, it’s fairly surprising given that it wasn’t exactly a ‘must watch’ game at the time.

Yes it is. Perhaps because it was early in the season.
Another issue with these figures is that on the other TV and streaming platforms, such as BT TV, only certain channels are available. So, that may include Main Event but not Arena. I wonder whether the bulk of those towards the bottom were just screened on Arena or Event.

It's annoying that we only get circa £2m a year per club off Sky with these viewing figures, surely we can get a better deal than what we have currently? 6th best that week on Sky Sports and only behind Football!
I'd be interested to see what the Challenge Cup double-header pulls in on the BBC this weekend. As the weather is expected to be grim you'd assume that they'd be the most viewed games this season.

It depends: as a sport we are in reverse gear compared to soccer and cricket and not holding our own with Union. Sorry, but my opinion, based on what I see is the interest shown by the general public. I think it is the finest sport in the world and push it a lot. But outside the M6, A1 and Humberside corridors, it's dying. So we may not even get the deal we have.

Same. Can’t see many other broadcasters lining up to offer deals to what is in effect a minority sport. It is a cracking product but for whatever reason just hasn’t broken into the mainstream.

According to RLE attendance figures are up there are more people playing blah blah. Sky never have a bad game on and everything is fine according to them. Eccles have just folded their Open age team most other clubs in the region are struggling for players and the RFL think All is well. It will be interesting to see the crowd for the semi finals this weekend I know Warrington were struggling to sell tkts. Someone has to give Sky and the RFL a kick up the @rse. It’s no use us fans saying it’s the greatest game when it is obviously floundering.

My heart says I'd love the Beeb to go for it as they have precious little live sport left and you'd think it wouldn't break the bank.
But sadly it will be SKY again with an even poorer deal than the current one, the RFL will tell us all's rosey and that we're lucky to have such an illustrious media partner.

Let's not forget that it's probably the same people negotiating the broadcasting rights that have been negotiating our sponsorship deals. And only a matter of years ago we decided to give our main naming rights for our flagship league away to a logistics company, for free, in return for nothing more than advertisements on the back of lorries to increase 'brand awareness' - shamefully bad!
Surely now with someone of Elstone's calibre at the helm, who has previous experience negotiating mutli-million pound sponsorship deals (he was a key stakeholder in the Chang deal for Everton which was a very successfully and lucrative partnership for Everton) hopefully we can attract additional commercial revenues from broadcasting into the game.
I mean, are they even going out to tender for these sorts of things? (TV deals, sponsorship, etc.) By the sounds of it, on the last TV deal, the RFL put a gun to the heads of the Super League clubs offering them a quick £300k payment in return for signing the contract as soon as possible. It sounded very unprepared, and a bit bent in my eyes to be honest.
Finishing this post on a more positive note, at least Big Nige is gone (has f*&k3d off) now! How that bloke was even involved in sport, never mind being the CEO of one of the most physically demanding sports in the UK is completely beyond me!

It won’t be the same people negotiating as it’s Elstone at the helm. Id be pretty certain that his main task, when being recruited, was improving the product to secure a satisfactory deal. There are far more relevant games this year, bar the loop fixtures,as everyone seems to either be in with a shout of top 5 or relegation,or both ! My guess, for what it’s worth, will be that Sky renew the deal so that it dovetails with their Aussie coverage. But,I wouldn’t put money on it !
