Maybe worth having a thread discussing positivity for next season.
Looking at Swinton v Toronto the Lions have done well in finding some good young prospects and Fairclough looks a natural at scrum half. Meanwhile Toronto - being a full time squad - struggled to contain Swinton for much of the second half and its clear that many are not good enough for Super League and no doubt several players will not be offered contracts.
I would guess Beswick will retire - maybe Wilkin too and I don`t think their half backs will be retained (Joe Mellor a possible?) & Brierley of course.
There is much talent in C1 which would suit our budgets and leave a decent wedge for class (Lui & Hastings etc).
Thoughts please lads.

Was reading Rugby League World magazine and 3rd top try scorer is the Swinton winger. Chisholm from Bradford is a very good half also.

Atkin news sounds positive - wonder if Lui going the other way and the clubs have agreed to not announce until end of the year?
Sargonson would be a good signing too. I wonder if the winger rumour is MCB?

Nobody has mentioned Escare. He’s clearly not wanted at Wigan. Think he would do a good job with us,

As I posted in rumours....
These rumours, Ellis coming in and having Atkin lined up might be part of the Operation Persuade Jackson.....
Hastings, Ellis/Atkin/Wood is stronger than Hastings, Lui/Wood Sarginson is better Sau and Bibby Williams is better than Olpherts
Plus whatever Aussies we’re looking at

I'd be seriously impressed if we got Sarginson as he's quality, Williams/MCB are both much better than Olpherts, must profess I don't really know much about Atkin or Ellis but I do remember Atkin getting plenty of praise when he was at Swinton and we were looking at him.
The way Olpherts has performed over the last month just shows why there should be no signings made for the following season until the current season is over, JJ shows how it should be done DO how not to.
Think the talk of operation keep Hastings is a bit of a bluff as seriously doubt he will stay, he might love the club and the fans but he is a winner and we simply don't have a winning team. Who could blame him if he went chasing silverware?

I can’t speak for the lad but he does seem to favour a short term stay here and a return to Aus so the question is - next season can Wigan and Leeds guarantee him a run at silverware? I think the short and simplistic answer is no which is why we are still in with a shot. The chance of a fairytale cup or league run with Salford might have more appeal for him even if the clubs interested in him do have a better chance of success.
I’ll keep holding out hope until he announces himself that he’s going somewhere new.

We are also linked with James Greeenwood from HKR for 2020. Would love it if we could get him and Yates from London. Would replace Jones and Griffin without too much disruption.

I wonder what the chance is of getting Pauli Pauli back? Him and Bibby made the Team of the Week. Pauli as a prop had him down as 20 tackles which isn’t bad for his minutes. 2 tries and an assist. Plus 85 metres. Can’t see him having more than 10 carries so that’s not a bad return. I’ve been impressed with him.

I’d very much like him back and don’t mind saying that I was wrong in my assessment of him. He obviously doesn’t fit as well at Wakey but in our pack of grafters he matches up well. I spoke to a Wakey fan over the weekend and they were saying that with Fifita already taking quite a few risks with offloads Pauli Pauli was often seen as a risk too far for them. As others have said, we’ve been lacking an impact forward for a while. Is he out of contract at the end of the season?

Think PP has been a revelation, said it on a different thread but I see shades of BMM in him, get him fully fit and he's pretty much unstoppable if he puts his mind to it. I'd certainly rather have him next season than Big Ben N (who for me has been a disappointment) and think we will increasingly see less and less of Mossop until he calls time on playing.
There is also the Junior factor to consider, ATM Junior is the focus for young fans after the game and if he goes I can see PP fitting into his shoes, he is a big lump, always has a smile on his face and from what I've seen seems very approachable.

Remind me again how many games we've won with PP in the team?

Remind me again how many games we've won with PP in the team? Very rarely does a 2nd row win you games, equally rarely does a 2nd row score 3 tries in 3 games.
