Don't quite follow a lot of the Wendyball references but this does sound a little t like Salford. Unionistas de Salamanca: The Englishmen at the heart of Spanish club's meteoric rise - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48296119

I'm surprised how little interest the "Future" has as a thread maybe we're all in the one game, one week, one season at a time mode?

I understand there is still mixed feelings about the Doc at the club but i wonder if he could redeem himself somehow. For example, would he be prepared to set up and fund an academy only team ? I'm not 100% sure how it could work or if it could operate as a stand alone entity to the club but there was a setup to keep the foundation players, and nurture any emerging talent to provide an steady stream of players coming through or to be sold on when other clubs come looking. When you consider the players we've had and moved on over the years the development side seem to be doing something right, Myler, Ratchford, Matty Smith, spring to mind. they could obviously utilise the training facilities and there'd be the opportunity for joint training sessions ??

I like the suggestion for an academy side from the Doc.
I don't think we can claim Matty Smith?
It would certainly help to have a career path and player stream ot our own making.
It would also stop a lot of the flack we get for this and as a result claims of bringing nothing to SL though I think a lot of this is from fans who feel their club should be in the top divsion as of right and forvever.

Can’t claim myler either
But ratchord, fages, Sneyd, Turner off the top of my head
We definitely need to build on what the foundation currently do. They do really well with what resources and options they have but there is no real academy pathway for local lads in Salford. The club have ambitions but it needs money to back it
I suspect the doc isn’t the man to provide that though. He was clear he would only fund the club in a major way if he could rebrand it. And he closed the old proper academy after under resourcing it to the extent that it lost its RFL funding

Smith didn't come through our youth set up and Myler was already an established first teamed at Widnes so can't claim him either. Ratchford and Jordan Turner are the 2 that spring to mind. We produced plenty of first teamers through the A team back in the day but we've always been more of a club that's given second chances to other teams' cast-offs. I'd love to see an academy team but feel it would need to be shared with the likes of Leigh/Swinton etc similar to the set-up in Hull where I think they have an American styled draft pick for the players. How this is funded, f*ck knows!

Think I've read somewhere that Hull FC and KR are reverting to Academy sides independent of each other again from next season...

A Greater Manchester academy is the only option for me, Salford, Swinton, Rochdale, Oldham and potentially Leigh.
One central base, equal funding from each club, find a quality coach and suss a system of equally sharing players depending on ability.
You'd think that the RFL would back this and help set it up, if you do brand it the GM academy then you make it neutral to all clubs and fans.

This was a reasonable suggestion and a fairly sensible quick fix for what we have now.
The Doc may not be interested in this but we need some help, like it or not.

On the good side of this thread Leeds look interested in Powell.
And does anyone think Izaac Farrell might be worth a look while at Hornets till the end of the season?

Prestwich, you posts are becoming increasingly aggressive, what with dickheads and fook off, earlier in the thread. Marwan ,particularly, seems to rattle you. Chill, please.
