This is a glaring example of what we face, Warrington have 8 members in the Lancashire squad for this, if say 50% of them go onto become SL squad members that's a massive boost financially (and there's home grown dispensation) and then 50% that don't make will highly likely drop into the lower leagues and help bolster the game. Sadly until we can (if ever) have an academy set up we'll always be also rans, I know the club is cash starved but the future must be to bring through our own talent rather than taking it from others. Time for me to look into the joint talent pool with Rochdale, Oldham and Swinton (I'd include Leigh but think they have SL ambitions still) again. A joint academy set up would be a huge benefit for all 4 teams. Finding the finance to make it happen is the stumbling block. www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/sport/17647455.lancashire-and-yorkshire-teams-for-2019-origin-series-in-blackpool

I think the problem we would have there, whilst I agree it would be fantastic to have an academy team, without a good owner we would have trouble fighting off rival clubs for the good players we may have nurtured and developed. just my opinion mr

We have a good team and a good coach currently but that is only going to keep us in for so long. An academy makes sense especially when we seem to be looking at three Widnes academy players to fill gaps next season.

I was a member of our first Academy set up in 1970, it was called Colts then. We were under the excellent Dai Moses and Ernie Chritchley and quite a few of the first team joined us for training sessions, Paul Charlton, Ken Roberts and Pete Smethurst to name a few. We had some great lads but I can’t remember if any got near the first team. Some did go to the A team some weeks. We played against Leeds,Saints, Wire, Bradford , Widnes and HKR, oh and Blackbrooke. I was a winger, quite fast but couldn’t take a tackle getting concussion twice, I never got into the team I only Was an unused sub against HKR once. They were great times though, I went on to play Yawnion which in them days was a much easier game😉👹

It's mad really how we are all desperate for a benefactor, yet it was our last benefactor who ditched the academy.

A Academy must be the Priority in the future, I cannot remember the Last Salford born player who played for us . With the exception of Jordan Davies who we signed from Sale Sharks When Brian Noble was the coach , Davies Born in Eccles brought up playing RU, Currently playing RU in Italy. Also I see Ellery Hanleys son Umyl.a is in the Lancs team Another sure sign That the years are flying by when the stars of the past Children start coming through.

As previously stated the man a lot of people still see as a Mesiah and want him back scrapped the academy. Hopefully it will be started next year. It’s the only way a club like ours can survive. I would happily pay into it and a effort such as squad builder should be run to get the fans involved. Look at the players we have produced when we did have one, unfortunately a lot are at other clubs now but it shows it can be done.

As for MK the distance between being a perpetual also ran and a top side is mostly the addition of a benefactor like it or not.
The choice without one is being a perpetual Fev side, just like last night deserving more but never quite getting it.
It's stark and some find it difficult to accept but there it is.

I saw that the Supporters Trust are phoning lapsed season ticket holders to persuade them to buy another ticket... it would make sense for them to also call Gold and Silver Squadbuilder members and persuade them to upgrade to Platinum... anyone any idea of the number of members by each category...?

All squad builder members are in the programme. Without counting I think it looks like about Platinum about 20% with silver and gold pretty even split of the rest

Without counting I think it looks like about Platinum about 20% with silver and gold pretty even split of the rest That's great news so there must be a few hundred Gold and Silver members to upgrade (Think there are around 80 or so Platinum so 160 gold and 160 silver members)...

I upgraded my gold to platinum last week and requested the payments continue after July on a rolling basis. A mere drop in the ocean I know but if we all did it, would certainly go a long way to righting the ship.

I’ve just finally signed up to the squad builder. I don’t have a lot of money so I’ve joined at the lowest tier but hopefully it all helps.
