Anyone else think he’s looking pretty ineffective so far this season? Not sure if it’s just because Hastings has taken more of the responsibilities away from him.

Guaranteed a place every week, needs competition or a kick up the arse.

Yes seems to have slowed quite a lot. Sadly so has Flash, can't afford to have two of them ambling round the field. Missing speed round the ruck.
Perhaps when Brierley or this French lad comes on board they could share the loose forward role. O'loughlin's the same, just plays half a match.

Kris Welham dropped so need to find another individual?
I think he’s started slowly but he’s been much more effective in the last 2 games. Played better against the harder teams. His passing and timing were off in first few games but been much sharper since Catalans. He hasn’t found the gaps yet for his running game to get going. He’s also playing second fiddle to Hastings. I’ve been surprised by how much he’s moved into the link player role while Hastings has become more of s runner. I thought it would be the other way round. His kicking game has been better too in last few games
We could do with him getting his step going to challenge the defence more on our right hand side. I do wonder if he’s carrying a knock so is running less or if it’s a conscious team decision for him to be more a passer than a runner

Think it might be something to do with him pootling around in a 58 plate Astra in Swinton, you would have thought that he'd have a sponsors car from Mitsubishi.

Last year of his contract seems to be weighing on his mind? Plenty for him to weigh up with his young family etc and he's at the stage of his career where his next contract will probably be his last long term deal.
Hopefully it can get sorted and he returns to form.

If (as everyone suspects on here - though interestingly not many at the club) Hastings is only on a 1 year gig we need to get RL signed up again, you can't replace him and JH effectively.
My deep wish for RL is that he would cut out his Benji Marshall 'air-side-step' as it just doesn't work, he is skilful enough to beat a player with at least 1 foot on the ground.

I think I read somewhere that we've got 10 players off contract at the end of this season? If this is correct I just wonder if the club are going all out this season in the hope of a good run in either league or cup to get some interest back in the club from lapsed fans and sponsors etc.
If the season goes downhill I think we could see a reduction in playing budget for next year. If we have a good year though I could see both Hastings and Lui staying on.

Player off contract for 2020 can talk to other clubs from 1st May. When you consider we have some highly coveted players you'd expect many will sign pre contracts with others long before we can tie them down.
We can't afford to play Russian Roulette.

Apparently Jackos staying, atleast for next season with possible option for a third year. Don’t hold me to that, just what I’ve heard.

If I recall correctly, towards the end of the Doc's tenure, he signed up most of the key players on two-ish year extensions. Most of those will be expiring around now?

This Rob Lui topic seems to have morphed into a player / contract discussion. Anyway 2 rumours I've heard;
1) as soon as we are safe ( 3 or 4 more wins I'm guessing) the top 4 earners will be offloaded. 2) the club can't renegotiate or offer new deals will until they are safe.
both make sense and have merit, it's up to you to choose which one to believe.
in the meantime, on to Wakey on Sunday COYR!

So JH, RL, Sau and at a guess Mossop/lussick all to be offloaded?
I'd go as far as to say that if that happens safety will be attained but there will be empty stands and a hugely reduced crowd for 2020.
