Think we all agree that there needs to be a decent reserve grade system in the UK and you'd hope that the powers that be might be of the same opinion, sadly that seems (at least on the surface) to be wide of the mark. Would love to know why they rejected this idea and why it has taken so long to come to light.

Is there going to be a Manchester reserves team? Is Chris Thorman returning to rugby league? Where is Krisnan Inu’s next destination? Here are the rumours and gossip…
Manchester Reserves application
A Manchester Reserves team that would have enabled the likes of Salford Red Devils, Swinton Lions, Oldham and Rochdale Hornets to utilise having a second team was rejected by the RFL in the off-season.
It would have been operated effectively as Salford’s reserve team, but the registration rules allow players from other clubs to play. It could have acted as a pre-cursor to a potential joint Greater Manchester side, with Manchester Rangers having recently had their application to join League One rejected.

There was an article in league express a few weeks ago about MCR Rangers application for league one and it being rejected by the RFL. In this it mentioned this combined reserve side but the RFL insisted it would have to be named Salford Red Devils reserves so MCR Rangers and presumably the other clubs as well decided to pull out.

Are we now criticising the RFL for telling us to preserve the Salford name for our reserves team?
I hadn’t realised the chant was Salford Forever Manchester Never (for the first team only and when it suits us)
I would like us to have our own reserve team but would be happy with a greater Manchester team with a number of other clubs. I think it would put Salford in the driving seat for future franchise arrangements whenever that comes back and that joint work with a number of lower league teams will be good for us. Not sure it would be for the lower league clubs though
I also dont think it would please the traditionalists. It would get people used to supporting a Manchester team and could easily be another step towards pro/feeder and to the Manchester brand growing in RL
