Doesn't surprise me. If RL did fully take off in the States or Canada they'd have that much cash they'd take all our and the NRL players and sink us both. Sport is run as big business there. They prefer homegrown players over there though - look at the MLS which is mostly American players and a sprinkling of big names. They also have a massive pool of unemployed athletes who don’t make it to or in the NFL - that would be the prime place to look for new talent. I don't see that as comparing like with like Football is cash rich and able to compete on a level RL can only dream of.
The other sports are all established in education over there and produce players.
But we're far more likely to lose clubs through financial problems.
Growing the image, marketing potential and financial level of our game alongside the growth of TWP and any other outside heartlands club is the key and maybe the alternative to dying on the vine.
But I'm not sure how this relates to yawn players thinking " I've done everything in the real world so RL retirement for me."

I've said this before and I'll say it again, get the Yanks invested (I mean as a passion not financially) in RL and they would rule the roost within a generation.
I used to see it there, you'd get a promising young collegiate athlete who got overlooked by the big boys and his options are extremely limited, there's a Canadian league (few different rules and bigger pitch) and then the odd serious teams spread throughout the rest of the world but in effect if by the time you're 21 you miss out on the NFL there's very little to transfer your skills to except RL/RL.
There are many transferable skills, the only way I'd ever see them struggling is in the 6/7/9 options as they're ingrained over a lifetime not transferred.
TBF you'd be much better suited to getting a decent RL following in the NE USA, there's more of a British/Irish/Italian heritage where rugby (of either codes as you'll struggle to get them to differentiate) and if you say started a Boston Fighting Irish RL team you'd get so much interest the RFL would pap itself.

Fully agree with this. So many of them go through high school and college playing in front of massive crowds and training at the best facilities only to then have very limited options after this. You’d have to tweak their fitness and make them a bit more robust against wear and tear but the size and speed of them should make them perfect for league. Imagine a poor man’s Gronk in the 2nd row or an Antonio Brown on the wing - frightening!

You only have to look at Carlin Isles, he is ranked in the top 50 fasted Americans ever and he has switched to RU 7's.
If you can imagine Offiah but quick, I know but an awful lot quicker you only have to see what type of athlete can go under the radar in the US.
I for one would love to see him taking the first hit up midfield against a tiring defence.
