In an ideal world the RFL would centrally contract 24 marquee players and the teams wrangle about who gets who, that way it's a level playing field as we've go no chance of getting 2 marquee signings unless one of us wins the Euromillions or a mystery benefactor dips into their own pocket.
Just out of interest is Hastings actually a marquee signing?

Just out of interest is Hastings actually a marquee signing? Wouldn’t matter would it as we are way, way below the cap limit? Edit: I see what you mean after reading it - he’s on less than £120,000 though isn’t he? Thought that was what the Pies offered and we offered less.

Just thinking if the RFL did contract the 24 marquee signings we could use a kind of draft system to see which team gets 1st and 13th pick.
Say it had been introduced this year London would have got number one pick and Wigan 12th, as in other draft systems things can be traded and swapped accordingly, make relegation only every 2 seasons and it would add some real contest and genuine interest out of season.
Pie in the Sky I know.

I’d be all for that - would definitely set us apart from other UK sports. Unfortunately I doubt such a socialist system would go down well in this country (still struggle to understand how they mange it in the US)!

Quite simply in the US the NFL et al say it will be this way and the clubs respect the governing body, the fault with the RFL and RL in Europe is that the few rule the many, we all know that at a chairman's meeting 3 or 4 of them rule the roost over the rest.

There is a reason Gary Hetherington sided with the RFL so often and I like GH.
It was so much easier when Mo Lindsay was in charge at the RFL it started and finished at Wigan Pier.
What's been really criminal up to now has been SL's inability to act as a single unit and I'm hoping that's changing now.

The problem is selfishness. Wigan, St Helens Leeds just want to battle it out between themselves.
The more they can fiddle, play down etc the smaller clubs the better. When we had the investment from Marwan look at the bans that Chase and Hock suffered when we were doing well. Much worse has happened since and punishments no where near as bad. And as for salary cap infringements Salford 6 pt at the end of season, Wigan 2 pt at the beginning
Just hope the new CEO isn't in the pocket of these 3 clubs as much.
They may win everything but the loser is the sport of Rugby League. Sad but we've seen the demise of Swinton Oldham Rochdale now Leigh and Widnes on the way. V sad.
But sad to say enjoyed Wigan getting battered by Sydney.

But sad to say enjoyed Wigan getting battered by Sydney. I thought English RL was a family and we all supported each other , especially against the Aussies ! Tribalism never used to exist in RL . It's now getting like football

It's now getting like football That's not Tribalism that's a historical logic and fact " Every RL fan has two teams their own and the one playing Wigan!"
If you're undecided on this just ask where the old Lancs Cup trophy ended up!
