Passed away aged 82 . Another World Famous Salfordian, His father's old Bookies still had the sign above the long closed down Shop on Broughton-Cromwell rd ? Pendleton. Used to go past it While on the 166 bus from Moston to Weaste bus depot on the way to the Willows. I'm sure there's a photo of him from the 60s 70s watching a match from the Willows variety club.

I'm embarrassed to say as a 41 year old Salfordian my ignorance around Albert Finney is shameful! I know the name and I've probably seen a few of his films but that's kind of it. Having just read his Wiki page he accomplished a hell of a lot for a lad from Charlestown (my old junior footy team as a kid). Turned down a knighthood as well in 2000 which sounds a pretty "Salford" thing to do!😊 www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13503928RIP Albert. Hopefully the city will find a fitting way to honour his legacy.

Really sad to hear the news about Albert. My late father and grandparents were great friends with the Finney family as they were both Salford Bookmakers. Albert often came to our family house in Worsley to play with my dad when Albert Snr and his wife came for dinner. RIP Albert, the world is a poorer place today after losing you.

A real Salfordian who kept some of his Salford twang even when he worked in the States... as a young teenager he would often follow my auntie home from her work, from the bookies on Cromwell Road to her house right down Littleton Road into Lower Kersal so he was a cheeky sod back then!
Btw Salford1963 if you are related to a Salford bookies then your dad must be Jim Ramsbottom...?

My great-grandad started off the family bookmakers in 19th century and my grandad, Billy Brady, took up the mantle in 1900. He played for Salford RL between 1903-07 with the great Jimmy Lomas and went on to help finance the club for many years. He passed away in 1960 with my father and his brother and sisters carrying on the business thereafter.

RIP to a true Salford legend.
Wonder if the club will recognise him on Sunday, would be a touch.

RIP to a true Salford legend. Wonder if the club will recognise him on Sunday, would be a touch. Simple enough and a minute costs nothing.
Magic actor even made badly scripted films and over rated co-stars look good.

I remember going to see his first film Saturday Night and Sunday Morning in 1960 at the Dominion on Regent Road.Earned a reputation as a great Shakespearien actor. Not bad for a Salford Lad who also told them where to stick their knighthood.RIP.
