This flew in the face of a few myths and may begin a new period of confidence in Our Game over here " A study has revealed the "savage" physical workload placed on Super League players- which is even greater than Australia's NRL."www.mirror.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/revealed-savage-workload-carried-out-13847792I would've put it on Total Forum but it's much better here and we'll probably hear the nay sayin' and moanin' from here anyway.

It's always nice to see science verifying what we all really knew anyway. Probably the toughest sport in the world. Requires supreme cardiac fitness, strength, toughness, coordination, and decision making skills. Not just for bursts, but sustained over an eighty minute period. There are other sports that might top some of these requirements, but not together and not constantly over a long time frame like RL players do.
They should be paid way more than they do. The toll it takes on your body means that post career, a lot of players physical frames are a decade 'older' than they should be.

Yeah no one ever thought we were the deluded ones apart from the Yawn brigade. But what was most interesting to me was that it was research by an Australian organisation so the Roos and SOO crowd can't moan about bias or the Golden Boot any more. Magic or what?

Does that mean are kyd I can quote you when the ladies call me a decrepit old wreck?
All joking aside I always go back to the exs family in the States who I showed games and highlight reels and they couldn't believe the physicality of RL over American Football with it's oversized protection and its constant on the field of the field nature.

Comparing TGG to other sports is a bit unfair on them. But comparing favourably to the NRL is a chance to rub their noses in it, as far as I'm concerned!

Carnster I am just reading a book by Phil Larder.Who was a decent centre in his day.Who went into coaching at club level And coached GB in League And who was defence coach in Union when England won the World cup.In the book he says when he started coaching in the GB set up in 1978 The Australians had just started their dominace. He went over to Australia to see the man who had started that dominace Jack Gibson.Wayne Bennett says that he's ideas came from Gibson.Gibson told Phil Larder up an till 1972 GT Britain just had the edge on Australia in test. Gibson went over to USA to study The Green Bay Packers in the NFL he found the way they were coached was eye opening. The Packers were coached by Vinc Lombardi Lombardi's mantra was Offence sells tickets but defence win cups.Lombardi also said you want people who when given their all can give you another ten per cent. So Gibson And Bennett then Larder got a lot ideas from American Gridiron.

There's certainly been a revolution in the way athletes are prepared and monitored compared to even five years ago. It's not surprising that forward steps are often made from visionary thinkers in other sports and adapted.
