So at the moment we are 8th, P10 W4 L6 PF 256 PA 265 DIFF -9 PTS 8 Would any of us imagined that at the start of the season? I believe the loss of Lui has had an impact on the team and they have lacked the calmness required to take control of the game. I'm personally looking forward to the return of Weller Huraki who is a handful in attack and more than capable in defence, he gives us that bit of mongrel. If scans indicate time on the sidelines, we're going to miss Justin Carney who is currently top meter maker in SL with 1469. Despite certain criticism of his defensive efforts Josh Griffin is leading the way for POTS so far ranked no.1 in the Team Stats and 8 Tries so far, he had improved tenfold since he arrived.
There is no greater time for Salford to end the Leeds Rhinos voodoo (Only 1 victory in recent times) this Saturday, if Lui returns I would place my money on a Salford win by 8. Thoughts?

I'm quite happy with the start we have made to the season. If lady luck had been on our side, we could of (and should of) beat Wigan, and we were very unfortunate to not beat Warrington. I'd be made up if we we're sitting on 12 points right now!
Apart from the Catalans game and the Hull FC game at the start of the season, I think we've given a good account of ourselves. It was always going to take a while for the team to gel given the number of additions we made in the offseason, and I personally think that the majority of them have had decent starts to the season, in particular O'Brien, Murdoch-Masila and Robert Lui.
I think the Leeds game could be a bit of a struggle but fingers crossed we can edge past them on the night.

With the team seemingly in a permanent state of reorganisation every week at the moment, I'm not so confident of getting anything out of the game. We wont have a better chance than at home against a Leeds side that has been found wanting this season. Saying that, I still think Leeds will always be a side that can turn you over no matter where they are in the table.
We'll never get a better chance and both teams really need the two points so I'm hoping the lads can get their heads screwed on for the game this week. I'll cautiously tip us for a close win.

If Lui is 90% fit I would play him and spell him with Wood on the bench. Fortnight before the next SL game so maybe worth a risk.

I agree with the Greyhound, Hot and Cold, I've seen some fabulous entertaining Rugby League with some glorious tries, and in the same breath I've witnessed performances deemed unfit for Rabbit Hills or Oakwood Park. You'd be a fool to expect anything more than a Middle Eight play-off this season due to this current Salary Cap saga which if we were all being perfectly honest, knew it was going to effect us in the future at some point we all knew the proverbial fan would be smothered, but the question has always been WHEN and WHAT damage would procede. I'd certainly deem a Middle Eight play-off a positive outcome especially with a penalised judgemental acquired against us.
At the end of the day we're Salford. We're not ready for the Top Eight just yet. Lets get this Salary Cap monkey off our backs, concentrate and deal with the Middle Eights and plan for next season, I'm sure Tim is recruiting already for next year. So for me this year has to be about sustaining our status in Super-league that's paramount, then we're in for a blockbusting turnaround next year with Tim focusing already on his recruitment. Staying in Super-League is our highest and Lowest target especially with the monkey on our backs, because of this the whole ball game changes where status becomes priority.

I pretty much agree with you, DI. In so much as having the cap business hanging over our heads means that realistically, barring a miracle, we'll probably be in the lower half of the table regardless of how well we play come the end of the regular season. Of course, if we can crack-on as a team and finish the season really well with a decent points haul we may get away with a reasonable points deduction. Slim chance imo though. Sheens and Watson always said it was a three year plan, and from what I've seen so far of the first year into that plan, we're heading for more exciting times. We've played some great attacking Rugby at times and shown we can defend when required. We've not done that consistently and that's what separates the good teams from the great ones.
There's a lot to be optimistic about, and we need to get rid of this cap business so we can all focus on moving forward.

Totally agree, trying not to get too down about the defeats (although wire really hurt), can certainly see improvements on last year. As you say 3 year plan, been waiting 35 years what's another 2 eh?
