People are saying that Sunday encourages more families to attend and can have things on around the ground but you ask people at most local amateur clubs and you will see it is not that simple. some games are not kicking off until midday depending on age groups and it is just as much as a rush for families to get to games if at all. I personally missed a number last year away because our team were 11am kick off in St. Helens and getting back and to away games was just so difficult. Even on our team, we have parents who follow Salford asking others to take their son's to play who then don't attend Salford matches. This is exactly the same effect as well for away teams. Likes of Leeds and Hull's where amateur rugby is big and them getting over.
you also do not get a good atmosphere on a Sunday at games and this has been evident a number of times when we have played afternoon games. Its not great most times to be fair but Friday's you tend to get a better atmosphere than sunday's and i think this will have a negative impact on the overall experience.
I take on board comments about children being the future as i best a significant proportion who post on here have at one time been a junior devil and are still hooked because of this. However, you have to get the off-field side with the junior devils sorted to have that positive impact and not just rely on the matchday experience. I bet that the proportion of kids who come to games under the age of 9 are not that interested in the games over the course of 80 minutes and have switched off. Make a fuss of the kids though away from it and that's how you hook kids. In to their teens they come because it's cheap and a good thing to do with their mates and then into adulthood they are hooked.
