The proof of pudding is in the eating. It's probably still better than the shanty town at Wakefield. We moved because John Wilkinson wanted Barton to be his legacy. Not because of the RFL. The RFL made it pretty clear that there was a distinct possibility that the clubs future would be under threat under the stadium facilities standards and John Wilkinson, unlike some other clubs, took this on board and we all know the end result. At several meetings that I attended it was stated that the club would have liked to develop and improve the Willows but the council would not hear of this happening. The fact that Wakefield and Castleford are still playing in their grounds that technically failed the RFL own minimum standards says more about the RFL than it does about John Wilkinson and the new stadium. The current and previous RFL hierarchy have a lot to answer for in the way that our game has gone over the last few years and it appears to operate like some sort of secret service.

He was also told at the meeting's you are on about that if we move to Barton we would loose support I was always under the impression what ever anyone said we were moving and we did.

That is true, but I thought that the subject was about the London ground at Ealing and the RFL are taking a softer line with London than they did with us. At the meetings that we are both talking about it was also mentioned by some people that we should have gone to the West One site but it was too expensive. Another site was what is now the car park at Hope Hospital(Salford Royal which was quickly ruled out by the powers that be on the council and Health Authority. The club were also screwed by the United Utilities over the Barton site which for years was worth nothing but once the club got interested in it the price rocketed.

Should have been built where Windsor High was on the Precinct.
