They are really exciting, too much so ! The real problem is that it stops plans for the following season, both in terms of what the club can commit to,and players faced with provisionally signing for a middle 8 or a certain deal from a top 8 will always choose the latter.

A perfect example is Hastings.
If we had signed him towards the end of the season and we were safe from the MPG/relegation I reckon there's a good chance we'd have signed him on a longer deal.
I still say promotion and relegation should be every 2 seasons, that way the promoted team get a year to bed in and then try to establish themselves.

Without the Qualifiers and threat of relegation (Widnes were doomed) we wouldn’t have signed him

Widnes have been doomed for quite a while, even to the point of swapping 2 decent players for WH and the crazy move to bring in a bench impact prop to try and influence the middles campaign.
As for bringing in Hastings even if we had have been safe with the 1U 1D scenario of next season the blindingly obvious fact all season long is wee have not adequately replaced our leaders in Dobson, Hastings is that replacement people must see that Dobson made us tick this season we have been without a rubber who we now have, for how much longer I don't know.
