In my option his better days are behind him. We could have used him this year but I’d rather go another direction next year (assuming Hastings is off).

If Hastings does go to Wigan and Smith to Saints then I would happily take Drinkwater. Showed this year what he can do behind a big Catalans pack. Also if Mellor goes to Toronto then Brierley would appear to be odd man out. Not an organising 7 but running game with him and Lui would be very decent.

Ditto. Drinkwater has already said he’s surplus to requirements and is looking for a club.

while I agree Drinkwater is a fine halve him and Lui wouldn't work, Hastings has proven that we missed an organiser to replace Dobson, the difference between him and Dobson is Hastings has the pace where when Dobson made a break he was instantly looking for support as he knew he didn't have the legs of physicality to make it.
For me you always need one halve who runs and one who pulls the strings.
Smith would have done wonders for the team this season and I doubt we would have been in the middles (as you can see if Hastings had been here all season too) with a bit of guile on show.

Compliment not replicate.

If Saints needs Smith the games is in a worst state than I thought. And that is no disrespect to the boy.

Smith is past his best imo. Doesn't really matter anyway, as Hastings will be with us for next season.

And if anyone needed proof that an organisor is paramount nowadays in RL see what Sammut is doing to us right now.

Two positives from today.
Proof if it was needed that Hastings is a gem and if at all possible we need to keep him, if not it's so obvious a schemer and organiser is needed to partner Lui.
Second once and for all we've put any nagging doubts behind us about JLJ and his abilities.
He has none.

You cannot blame one individual for a defeat. JLJ was a player who quite a few people including you MR who were pleased when he signed. It has not worked out for him unfortunately. Full back looks his best position but we already have a good one there. Yesterday was a bad performance by the team not one person.

And Hastings is one person, not a team, but he is a catalyst which Littlejohn clearly isn’t. I watched him closely yesterday because I wanted to highlight his strengths . I wanted him to succeed. He can pass the ball when he’s in the line which is why he was ok at fullback. My real problem with his performance yesterday was that he refused to take the ball to the line and his kicking was dire. He was so poor that Lui had to move infield to spark something and Broncos were ready for that. In the second half that had been identified and Flash played a pivot role to allow Lui to stay wide. I would criticise the coaching team for not rectifying the situation earlier. Whilst it was a poor performance by the whole team,Burgess had dropsy big time, a more involved scrum half would probably have seen us home. As you rightly say,it hasn’t worked out for him and,at a personal level,I feel sorry for him because he’ll be acutely aware of that.

Full back looks his best position but we already have a good one there. Yesterday was a bad performance by the team not one person. Salford lost Dobbo and based on this years performances, until Jackson arrived, we were lacking organisation and leadership. What this has highlighted is the need for an organising scrum half to partner Rob Lui. Unfortunately JLJ is not that type of player and has struggled in that role. Does that make him a bad player, No but he's certainly not an organising Scrum Half. I really hope we can keep Jackson somehow because we have lost two games that I personally think we would have won with him playing. If he doesn't stay, then we need to go for a similar type player. A lesser player in that mould is much better for the team than a player playing out of position or not suited to that role. Fingers crossed Jackson stays because he would be better appreciated at Salford than he would playing in a "bigger" side. He would certainly become a hero here playing in the Red Shirt.
