I've become morbidly preoccupied with Mr Smith because I honestly think in a number of our games he has shown bias against us. In his first year of refereeing in SL he was appointed by the RFL to officiate in more of our games than for all the other teams games put together. I agree with redunderthebed about conspiracy theories and people not being perfect but his not seeing the no try doesn't help Toulouse much does it? In fact it could be quite costly if it denies them a place in Super League. In our Toronto match right near me Russell was caught on the last tackle on top of the touch line he tried to get rid of it it was flung by Russell into touch. Cue Jack Smith to Robert Hicks a Salford player touched it no wait for it he made a play for it. Laughable. A set of six for them on our line. Ask the players. In fact he does referee SL games in an emergency, he does send players off for racist comments when no complaint is made and he does give 3:1 penalty counts against us even at home. Criticism is valid. Swearing and abuse I agree is not. I certainly wouldn't want to go down and have him refereeing our games. In fact I can't think of a better reason to stay up where his officiating can do us the least damage. I’ve said before that because I’m so respectful of Smith’s back story I wanted him to succeed. The problem is that, sadly,he’s a crap referee and I think he came to the same conclusion,or someone had a word in his ear. As regards Hicks,I used to bracket him with Childs whereas,in truth,I think Hicks is ok. Childs has a problem. He could be ok but he always wants to give the ‘look at me’ decision. Reverse penalties early on in games, deciding penalties late on in games. Do I think they’re bent? No,of course not. Do I think he would’ve penalised Leeds at home in the last minute. No,of course not ! I think Childs is the worst kind of ref. Capable but wants to draw attention to himself. Compare and contrast with Thaler who’s the best of a mediocre bunch

I know I’ll be in a minority but I don’t have a big problem with Child. I can see the point about him being a bit ‘look at me’ but I do think he is fairly even handed. I think we have gained from as many of his controversial calls as others and we have a pretty good win rate when he’s reffing. He was ridiculously whistle happy when he started but I think he’s got better.
This is bit off topic but... One of the current ‘trends’ in refereeing that before find a bit annoying - penalising ‘hams on the ball’ that barely slows down the play the ball but letting defenders lie on for what feels like ages and has far more impact on the speed of the game. Child is one of worse for that
Back on topic... I have recovered from my rant which I think was caused by seeing too much nonsense and abuse on twitter. I do get why people see conspiracies in some things. The changing dates for our last 2 games is appalling and I can see how frustration spills into paranoia and seeing conspiracy/corruption. I just think it is a negative way of thinking that undermines support for the club and the sport as a whole and stops attention being given to address the real issues

In fact I can't think of a better reason to stay up where his officiating can do us the least damage. That’s interesting and I hadn’t picked up on that with Smith. I remember him reffing a couple of our games and being utterly confused about the decisions. I think we won a couple and lost one but genuinely not understanding what he was giving them for. I thought it was cos he was new. He then jacked in full time and I didn’t give him much more thought. I hadn’t noticed when he’s been a touch judge for us. I agree about the Russel off load v Toronto. At the game I thought it didn’t look anything like it came off a Salford hand and having watched the replay I cannot see how he could possibly think it had. I hadn’t clocked it was smith though. Im going to keep an eue out now though. I think I’ve caught your obsession now you’ve pointed it out 😂

I certainly don't think he is Anti - Salford as some have stated. This was evident by some dodgy calls he gave our way in the first half against Leeds. He's just far too fussy and needs to let games flow more. Regards to the game dates changing, whether that is a conspiracy or not is up for debate. Its just unbelievably annoying when you can't plan anything and are kept in limbo 'just in case' . There needs to be a better structure on this and the rfl need to think of the loyal paying fans for once instead of their own back pockets.

I can’t stand Child but definitely don’t think he’s ‘anti-Salford’. He’s just a bit too ‘pro-Child’ for my liking! I dread watching games with him in charge for the reason pointed out above - very niggly. Also, if he is unsure that there has been an infringement he will always give a penalty rather than the benefit of the doubt- thats why it seems like he’s guessing a lot of the time.
I do recognise they have a difficult job but the silence on the big mistakes this weekend just rub me up the wrong way. I’d prefer they owned up to it and moved on.
